China Threatens Polluters With The Death Penalty

"The Chinese government announced just days ago that defendants in serious pollution cases might end up facing the death penalty. This comes on the heels of a number of other reforms meant to tackle China’s air pollution crisis, including introducing a carbon tax and reducing the amount of damage that must be caused by a polluter before they can be prosecuted."

Capital punishment isn’t uncommon in China, which executes the highest number of people in the world each year — perhaps up to 5,000 a year. (The official numbers are a closely guarded state secret.) While most capital offenses involve violent crimes, a number of economic, political, and drug offenses also carry the death penalty. As you can probably imagine, human rights groups like Amnesty International are extremely critical of China’s widespread use of the death penalty.

Is it ok with the death penalty for serious pollution? I think so, it being a threat to so many people in the first case and nature itself in the second case, which we are all depending on.

Is it ok with the death penalty for serious economical crime? I'd say yes.

No,I do not agree with the Death Penalty for something like this. There are many other effective ways of cleaning up the environment without having to resort to something like that. The End's,do not justify the "Means" in this particular situation.

If there was ever something I'd support the death penalty for it would crimes like this where the number of affected people is very large but no, killing people as punishment for a crime is still unacceptable.

The point is to stop it before it happens. Is that not worth it?

If not, is there any crime you think the death penalty should meted out for?

I don't support the death penalty.

But. If I did, hypothetically, China wouldn't be top of my list of "countries I trust with the death penalty"

As long as people begin to see the death penalty for what it really is--state-sanctioned murder-I'm for it.
