For a submissive, 'The Pillow Book' DVD or book. Or find a copy of the original it was based upon the book of the same name by Sei Shonagon if you can get it on amazon.

I have this book in my collection, I have read it more than once.  Thank you for the reminder, and I now have something to read while I wait for my order.

I have read "Consensual Sadomasochism" any number of times and always pull new things from it.

I am not a masochist.  Do you think there is enough meat in it for a hedonist?

this slave would suggest "The Voice of Knowledge" by Don Miguel Ruiz

I have read the Four Agreements and believe it to be a sound and fascinating discussion of life choices.  I am not sure if Ruiz will speak to me in the way I am looking for right now.  I am not sure if you have read this book, but if you have how would you compare it to the Four Agreements?

To all, I really appreciate your input and am going to be looking at websites to make a decision.

thanks.

sorry, this slave hasn't read the Four Agreements, but it is touched upon in "The Voice of Knowledge"...from the back cover:  "In 'The Voice of Knowledge', Miguel Ruiz reminds us of a profound and simple truth:  The only way to end our emotional suffering and restore our joy in living is to stop believing in lies----mainly about ourselves.  Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, this breakthrough book shows us how to recover our faith in the truth and return to our own common sense."

the "recovering faith in the truth and returning to our own common sense" part is why this slave encourages submissive folk to read it. it is written with spirituality, not religion, plus, this slave enjoys the anecdotal stories and prayers he includes!

Thank you all for your input.

Just thought I'd let you all know I ordered:

The Loving Dominant by John Warren
The Compleat Slave by Jack Rinella

I know I said one . . . but I only spent half my gift certificate, and now I have a list for the other half as well.

I read The Four Agreements and its companion book and they were quite powerful.  I bought The Voice of Knowledge but have not read it yet.   You have inspired me to pull it off the shelf!

(edited twice to fix a quoting problem and now just gives up!)

Slavecraft by Guy Baldwin.  best book on being a slave i've found.  speaks directly to the slave heart.

My two best bets are not lifestyle books, but often used in group bible studies.    No, you don't have to believe in the biblical roots of the teachings, but they're great books!

First, Gary Chapmans "5 languages of Love"...  how we recognise loving acts depending on which types of things "reach us"...  we tend to use and respond to one particular type..
  1. Words of affirmation
  2. Quality time
  3. Receiving gifts
  4. Acts of service
  5. Physical love

One shows love by polishing the faucets, and another shows it by saying "I love you" 16 times a day..  One cries "He's always gone on Saturday morning", and his response is, "Because I  vaccume your car on Sat mornings!"   One is missing physical intimacy, because the other is missing little love notes on the mirror..  By helping find out your particular "language" as well as your partners, this book illustrates (and helps remove) these disconnects in ways that will open your eyes to crossed signals in all of our relationships.

The other is controversial in many circles, "The Surrendered Wife" by Laura Doyle is gender-biased to the max, but i know male subs have found if they can overlook the gender issues, the concepts apply to any submissive.  Both books are just one more stepping stone, no one stop shopping.  lol. Enjoy!
