I know there are some music connoisseurs on this site - please help me!

I'd like some suggestions for some more accessible classical pieces. Ideally shorter pieces, or if you could point me to the most accessible sections of longer pieces that would be good too.

My tiny person has suddenly developed a great interest in music overnight. I only play a little and I'm fairly uneducated. We already listen to a decent range of non-classical genres, so I'm looking to broaden our horizons. Any sort of mood or theme is good, just looking for things we can listen to on our car journeys or have on in the background to our play.

Thank you.

Edit to add: I'm very relaxed on my definition of classical. Just tell me about a piece you love.

Some of my favorites:

Rachmaninoff - "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini"
George Winston - anything from Autumn (my fave CD of his...but you can't go wrong with any of his music)
Pachebel - "Canon in D major"
Mozart - "Violin Concerto no. 5"
Bach - "Air"

Hope this helps. Classical music is not my normal preferred genre of music, but there are just some times where cranking up the volume on these songs is exactly what I need.

For an album, get the sound track to "2001 A Space Odyssey"

Lots of nice Waltzes in there.

Beethoven's 9th conducted by Sir Georg Solti.

And always for the win, Tchaikovskis nutcracker suite.

"The Four Seasons" - not a short piece by any standard but one of my favorites - Vivaldi (I think).

"Die Valküre" - "Flight Of the Valkeries" in English - Wagner

There was a "rock/disco" version of "Beethoven's Fifth" called: "A Fifth of Beethoven" I don't remember the artist but, it might be a good segue from "rock" to classical.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

There is a series called Classic for Kids. I used the German version with my sprogs. They liked it a lot.

Among others, I love:

The Meditation from Thais

Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin

Youtube will bring you several versions of all of these.

Some pieces that haven't been mentioned yet:

Tchaikovsky - War of 1812 - It has cannons.
Holst - The Planets - A collection of shorter pieces, each with a theme matching the god or goddess the planet it was named after.
