OP,
Not to long ago I joined alt thinking since folks pay there would be less flakes, time wasters and scam artist. Man was I mistaken.

My question is this. Would a small monthly fee help reduce the number of scammers on this site? Since most scammers create a new profile at least every day, the cost of creating 20 or 30 profiles every month might deter them. Personally I would be willing to pay $10 a month if that would clean up the number of fake profiles.

Higher monthly fees certainly haven't deterred the scammers on alt or adultfriendfinder

We are members of both of those pay sites and a couple of others as well.
The fees do not stop the scammers at all or even reduce their numbers much.

If CM started charging, I'd be outta here faster than a startled rabbit.

Actually I have seen CM admins act on reports of scammers faster than other sites I belong to. All people have to do is click the report email or report profile buttons and file a report.

When you can see that they are fake, is it not unimportant? What I do not understand is what they get from open new profiles with the same pictures

ummm.. could be cuz brand new accounts will be bombarded by horny desperate dudes before you have even finished completing your profile.. if the pics worked well before, they will work again on dudes that havent seen them yet.. dudes that have seen the pics & know they are fake wont bother emailing so they would get just fresh suckas emailing..

Why would you assume the scammers wouldnt pay a nominal fee?

The logical approach is to find the profiles looking for monetary gain....and charge them a fee.

Because even if it is reported and deleted by the mods between the time they open the new profile and when that happens they know what draws in their target audience. The pictures and text typically stay very much the same.

That works too.

Most BDSM sites are failures because they require a fee. I can think of like 5 at least that require you to sign up (pay) before you can even message someone. Those sites are literally a waste of time because you will never have the number of people needed to make a successful dating site. The best ones are all free...FetLife, OkCupid and Collarme (not sure if there are more).

Yeah, that's what I was about to post. Alt has become a site where the owners spend so much effort trying to get fees, that they've forgotten to make the site actually meet the needs of its user base.

I actually enjoy seeing how quickly I can spot a scammer profile. I've gotten to the point where I can usually spot them simply from the picture alone, without reading the text.

katts3 -> RE: Is Free worth it? (7/3/2013 4:06:54 AM)

@DarkSteven...Yeah ,when you have been around here as long as you and I,it doesn't take much to spot the scammers.I play their little games till the end and then bust them....Yeah,I would pay a fee if it kept all the trash away..Bounty

TNDommeK -> RE: Is Free worth it? (7/3/2013 5:54:57 AM)

I'd leave as well if they charged.

LadyPact -> RE: Is Free worth it? (7/3/2013 7:20:45 AM)

Fast reply......

I'm glad you are willing to pay a fee in the hopes (and that's all it is would be hope) that something that you dislike about the site would be reduced. However, since the issue that bothers you doesn't bother Me at all, why should I have to pay a fee for something that doesn't change the quality of the site from My point of view? Better yet, why should a lifestyle person like Me stick around on a site where I have to pay when the closest competitor to what this site offers (namely, Fet) is free for My use?

If you are really willing to spend $120.00 bucks a year on meeting people, I'll bet you could hit four or five munches for the same price.

Which would require a large amount of manpower on website that relies on volunteers and is currently understaffed. I read somewhere that they average 500 new profiles per day. It would be like trying to hold back a river with a broom.
