My question is this. Would a small monthly fee help reduce the number of scammers on this site? Since most scammers create a new profile at least every day, the cost of creating 20 or 30 profiles every month might deter them. Personally I would be willing to pay $10 a month if that would clean up the number of fake profiles.

Free is worth it to me. BUt Im not looking for anyone. I rarely look at profiles, and its pretty easy to scan one and see its probably fake, and even easier once you talk to them for about 3 to 4 lines.

Free is worth it to me. The scammers are pretty easy to spot and hide/block/report/delete messages. I found Master here pretty quickly so I'm only here for the forums now.

Also, scammers can be found on the pay sites as well. They get enough from their "victims" to make the membership fees worth their while.

Why would you assume the scammers wouldnt pay a nominal fee?

The owners get some benefit by encouraging scammers so they do nothing to deal with it because to them its not a problem its revenue.

~FRing it~

I personally don't like the idea of having to pay money to do something...when exercising my own judgment and not really getting all bent out of shape at the thought of scammers is free.

I get a ton of junk mail in my email inbox on a regular basis. My personal favorites are the ads promising to add inches to my manhood. Seeing as how I came equipped with a vagina at birth, you can imagine my frustration at the thought of scammer offerings causing me to grow a penis. However Im not interested in paying a monthly fee for the privilege of being able to have email, even if it meant having no emails promising me that I could grow a penis that would rival John Holmes'

Do you work for the government? Sounds like some kind of "helpful" program to save us from ourselves, to me. You know, for people who have never learned to protect themselves and must be saved from making mistakes.
The rest of us who have learned how to ignore, block or delete would then be forced to pay for the poor judgement of the lowest common denominator.

Not only is free worth it, but if the site charged any money at all, I'd not be using it. That would suck, because I really enjoy the messasge boards here.

Free is totally worth it. If CM started charging, I'd leave. And just because you're paying for a service doesn't mean the fakes and flakes won't be there. Scammers will just pay the fee using stolen card numbers is all. I was on Alt for awhile, and it was a joke with all the relocate me frauds there. $9.95 a month to have my inbox full of redirect ads. No thank you.

I dont see fet devouring the marketplace, it is still a hell of a fucked up site to navigate, but it is a colder medium, so it may bring more women looking to flirt, but I am looking for real shit.

It might help reduce the scammers to have turn this into a paying site, however, it'll also reduce the number of people using it- not just the scammers. Also as LadyP noted, scammers will pay. Ages ago when I was on paid dating sites there were always scammers too, they don't care because they're using mostly stolen credit card numbers so its not coming out of their pockets. i think people would have a false sense of security if this were a paid site, they might be overly trusting of the profiles when it wasn't warranted.

The scammers don't really bother me, I just pick them out and and pass on by.

OP, what are you thoughts on wanting to get rid of the scammers...do you have trouble identifying them? How is it that they frustrate you?

Free or paid, does not matter. People will be idiots no matter what.

You can only rely on yourself to discern scammers.

Higher monthly fees certainly haven't deterred the scammers on alt or adultfriendfinder
