Here is a short lesson in internet marketing, and how it applies to CM. Today's websites can easily pull up reports not just on number of users, but number of unique users. So CM's owner wouldn't have a *reason* to create fake accounts, which makes that particular allegation even more ludicrous. Advertisers don't pay based on number of users, they pay based on number of clicks. If your users never click on the ad that takes them to the site where they will spend money, the site won't make any advertising dollars, no matter how many users it has. I believe the number of sock accounts on CM is directly related to CM's practice of giving new accounts more coverage on the front page - it's called Newest Local Users and it's an actual tab on the left hand side. This is why new female users are inundated with messages the first few weeks -- CM makes them so easy to find. From anecdotal evidence alone, I've noticed I receive more messages when I have been gone for a few days - another reason for the scammers to have several sock accounts, they rotate them for maximum visibility. Just saying . . .
