Funny story-

Years ago, my sweetie worked for the American arm of a British financial company. Some executives from the home office were walking with their American counterparts in NYC, and they had one of the various ethnic pride parades going (maybe St. Pats parade, Salute to Israel, whatever...).

The Brits asked what it was about, and the US guys explained the concept, and they said "Oh, that's Brilliant. So tell me, do they have a parade to celebrate British pride?". Without batting an eye, the US executive said "Sure, you ever hear of the 4th of July?"

So are y'all (snurk at my attempt at talking American) having big parties and parades today?

I just started a thread about it, it was a branch from your thread lol. And your "y'all" was perfect.

LadyPact -> RE: Happy Independence Day to all the American folks (7/4/2013 12:24:10 AM)

Your use of "y'all" was just fine. See? It's not hard. Take it from somebody who has been a transplant in the South at one point in life. It comes naturally after a bit. I still catch myself saying it, sometimes.

To answer your question, yes. Parties and BBQs are very popular for the holiday. There are lots of fireworks, too. Many cities do huge displays. Very spectacular. I might suggest checking YouTube for the show in New York City if you really want to see a fantastic production.

ETA - I think K and I were having the same thought.
