ARIES83 -> Home is where... (7/4/2013 4:23:28 AM)

What makes a place home for you?

The idea of home for me is somewhere where the steps feel a natural space apart rather than built to accommodate shuffling feet...
It's somewhere the doorways can be walked through comfortably without having to tuck your elbows in or lead with one shoulder...
Home to me is where the armrests on the chairs sit at just the right level...
It's where in the evenings, the faint smell of a fireplace beckons you to the door, where the smell of food in the kitchen beckons you to eat, and the warmth of a woman beckons you to sleep...

I was raised as a gypsy somewhat... The idea of home to me is most of all... a place that belongs to you.

What is home for you?

My home is the library in which I live attached to the kitchen in which I cook that has a garden large enough to grow some herbs (and this year, a small tomato plant in a pot).

Seriously, home is the place with my things. What makes it feel like home is the cats who reign supreme over their domain.

A place where I can shut the world out and live in my own safe place. There's no society to impress, no backwoods racist looking at us for being a mixed couple, no Obama lover/haters (unless I get brave and go to the basement and join some P and R). This is where I can decorate my place, spend loving moments with my poly family, laugh at the dogs. Play outside (sometimes I'm a big kid).
Home is where our laughter is, where we cook and eat as a family.

Sorry I got carried away, lol but what a great thread.
*winks at Aries*

Home is where I do my things, my way. I plant fruit trees, add a beehive, throw out old stuff and get new stuff. I have my friends over. I make my own food, my way. It's mine.

Where I have tons of yarn and books. I got 3 to 5 bookshelves in my bedroom alone and have been going through them to get my personal collections in there. I also got some books coming in because I found some free space in one of the shelves.

My Closet of Doom has yarn, a core ball and a body pillow in it. at times, there is a book on the bed because I don't have space for a night stand.

Like steven said. However I have another piece of property that I am building on, myself no contractors except a plumber and electrician when needed, that I intend to move to, same county, just a hell of a lot harder to get to.

For Me, it's where MP and I live together. A place where we have our cats and our various stuff.

It's the place where we can do what we want or choose to do nothing at all if the mood strikes us. No demands made on us by anyone in the outside world. It's where we can sit in pajamas all day on a Saturday if we feel like it

It's also the place where we build good memories with our friends, whether those times are an afternoon coffee, people over for dinner, or a party here and there. It's a place where we've connected with others in the kink community, even though it takes the majority of our friends two hours to drive here.

The old saying really is true. Home is where the heart is.

Zevar -> RE: Home is where... (7/4/2013 7:30:08 PM)

Home is the place where all that I value is safely harbored. A place where that which is significant, in My eyes, can be expressed, displayed and enjoyed etc.. Namely, above all else cherished. Home takes on the qualities of My internal understandings of nurture VS nature. I strive to bring to My concept of Home, manifested in a physical dwelling, those things which I irrevocably treasure and would never compromise, regardless.

Actually, the area where my other property is located is mostly live oaks and juniper bushes, and prairie grass.

Home is where I find happiness, my son is safe, and my girl is at peace.

I have more than one home, and I carry it with me despite geography.

littlewonder -> RE: Home is where... (7/5/2013 12:02:06 AM)

wherever He is.

lovethyself -> RE: Home is where... (7/5/2013 10:27:03 PM)

Home is where my family is, both those I was born to, and those I've let into my heart. It's where I go to unburden myself, whether with friends or in solitude. I take it with me wherever I can. It's the place I'm most myself.

MasterCaneman -> RE: Home is where... (7/6/2013 5:59:00 AM)

That's a hard one for me. Right now, I'm living in my mom's old apartment, so it isn't "home". I've bounced around for so long, I'm not sure what the term means anymore. I guess wherever I'm staying at the moment that no one can just walk in anytime they please counts. Even now, after two years here, I'm still living out of my suitcase and duffel bag for the most part. If I had to, I could be packed and gone in less than two hours.

Maybe that's what I should consider when I find "home", being entrenched so thoroughly that I can't do that. Hmm.

MistressDarkArt -> RE: Home is where... (7/6/2013 11:00:14 AM)

Home to me is my cats, musical instruments, comfortable bed, massage chair(s), ocean sounds and view of the mountain I hike from the front of the house.

njlauren -> RE: Home is where... (7/6/2013 11:04:54 AM)

I just couldn't resist:

"Home, home is where you put your shoes on"

Anyone wanna guess where that came from?

slaphere -> RE: Home is where... (7/6/2013 5:17:57 PM)

I've been guilty of calling many places my home. If I'm over at a friends house, that place is my home. If I'm away at college, my dorm is my home. If I'm visiting family, their house is my home. My home is literally any place where I'm with loved ones. Any place where I can be myself is my home.

Home is wherever my heart is... sounds a bit cliche, but for me, its true. Family, friends, those I love and those who love me.
