We must never cease to proclaim in fearless tones the great principles of freedom and the rights of man which are the joint inheritance of the English-speaking world and which through Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, the Habeas Corpus, trial by jury, and the English common law find their most famous expression in the American Declaration of Independence.

FR~

Thanks for the thought TND, but neither me nor the Mrs know who this dude is either!

I'm actually quite glad the US won its independence coz otherwise we'd have all you rootin' tootin' gun slingers creating havoc over here when we repealed the gun ownership laws.
Given the many threads on CM about how bad it has gotten in the US recently for the citizens and the police, I'm really glad I didn't move there.

Freedom, call me K please.

I have no clue who that guy is, I just thought the saying was cute. I thought y'all would enjoy. :)

I can't say I have any problems here (in Arkansas) with gun slingers. Might be cause I am a gun carrier. :) But everything is peaceful here.

However I wouldn't have a problem living there, I bet it's beautiful.

Well..The Amish here in the United States call people outside their faith "English"...so maybe he is just one of us! By the way, do they have Amish people in other countries? I just wondered about that!

He's called Tom Hiddleston, he was in the Avengers as Loki. Not the most obvious choice for a sexy Englishman really. Especially since he plays a deliberately unattractive character in that film. I suppose he's good looking but there are a lot more famous people out there.

(I'll take Johnny Lee Miller, if no one minds)

I'll have David Tennant. Or Christopher Eccleston.

Or to be honest, the guy in the picture!

Shut the front door! I hang my head in shame. As a marvel fan, I must say, I didn't even recognize him. Wow, I'm ashamed.

And I'm weird but Loki was hot to me, but as long as we're picking English gents, I'll have Tom hardy as Bane or the role in "this means war". I'm sorry to the non believers but he is proof there is a God. Meow!

A special shout out to Idris Elba who plays the title character in Luther with his own British accent and also played "Sringer" Bell, a Baltimore drug dealer with a homey American accent in The Wire. So special in both roles. Too brief an apprearance in American Gangster tho.

May I tip my hat to the famed Dick Van Dyke.

Whos' exemplary 'cockerney' accent in 'Mary Poppins' is still talked about with awed reverence across The British Empire fifty years after the event!!

'Gor blimey guv'nor, it's a real pea souper & no mistike!'

He surely is the American Lawrence Olivier !
