I suggest you get a newspaper. And read how it took a plucky SCOT to win

Mwahhhhhhhh

Andy Murray is BRITISH! If he'd have lost, he'd be Scottish [:D]!

Which just shows how sneaky you damn English are ;)

Hands off. He's a Scot to the core.

As Mr Murray learnt very early in his career when you damn English couldn't take a joke !!!! [:D]

In fairness to Mr Murray, he's always been pretty good about describing himself as British - which I guess is an acknowledgement of the support he gets from all across the United Kingdom.

I think he'd be irritated, rightly, to be described as "English" though.

By the way, do they have Amish people in other countries? I just wondered about that!

Hi otter,

I grew up surrounded by the Amish in one part of the USA, and when I got my first job, I worked with a community of Amish in a different state. To me they have always been around, and I don't have the "ooo they are so different" kind of thing. They were just a fixture in life while I was growing up. It was very natural then to continue working with them.

The short answer to your question is yes, there are Amish people outside of the USA. Canada has some. I looked it up and learned that there are some also Ireland. (I hadn't known that). Mostly, though they are in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana in the USA. If you get a chance to go to Philadelphia and to the Reading Terminal Market, a lot of them have booths there and sell amazingly good food.

Studies have been done on them and they have been really helpful in a couple of areas - genetics research (because of the clear lineage and also the tremendous amount of inbreeding amongst the population) and interestingly with foster care. Many of them are foster parents.

best,
sunshine
