LadyPact -> Walking Dead Marathon (7/4/2013 9:58:15 PM)

For Walking Dead fans, AMC is running all four seasons. We're at Rick arriving in Atlanta where everyone is held up in the department store.

TheHeretic -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 9:48:51 AM)

Another marathon this weekend, leading up to the second half of the 4th season premiere.

Courtesy of Netflix, I've now seen the first 3 seasons, and the marathon will load the first half of season 4 into the DVR. That will save the hassle of plugging the computer into the TV, to watch the episodes on the internet.

Being old enough to remember TV as 3 networks, a local, and PBS, where if you missed your show, you missed your show, it's amazing how much the act of watching TV has changed in my lifetime.

anniezz338 -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 10:04:16 AM)

I've seen all four seasons. I'm wondering if Carol will be coming back and if the baby is ok. And if they kill off Daryl I'm going to be very upset.

DomKen -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 11:49:20 AM)

As an avid fan of both the show and the comic I'm finding it weird how much the two are diverging.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 1:12:04 PM)

So the next new episode is this Sunday, right? I have a friend who downloads for me and I've been going nuts waiting for the next episode.

If I had cable I would so be watching that marathon.

Yes.

jlf1961 -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 6:41:15 PM)

Can I point out a few "scientific" facts?

1) A zombie apocalypse would be short lived, considering they are undead, they have no circulatory system supplying nutrients to cells, in other words, they will rot and fall apart.

2) Zombies walk so slow that scavenger animals would be able to catch and eat them pretty quickly. They would be to busy defending themselves against feral dogs, hogs, coyotes, buzzards, vultures, etc.

3) Did I mention they would basically rot and fall apart in less than a week?

By the way, I am also the guy at the movies that will point out mistakes in "historic" dramas, such as the cgi generated mustangs in Red Tails that pulled aerodynamically impossible maneuvers to get on the tail of a ME 109, with in a few plane lengths. I mean a insane man could try it, but he would discover that his wings have fallen off and he is on the express ride to the ground.

Also, in the final scene of the movie "Midway" about the WWII battle in which the US Navy beat the crap out of the Japanese, the actors are standing on a walkway on a Forestall Class Carrier, post Korean war, pre nuke powered carriers.

In the movie "Tora Tora Tora" there is a scene where a Japanese torpedo bomber is skimming along the surface on an attack run, as the camera pans with the aircraft, you can clearly see ships built long after world war two, as indicated by the hull numbers, electronics masts, and 5 inch gun mounts.

I dont even want to go over the multitude of mistakes in "Memphis Belle" except that on the 25th mission, the Belle returned with minimal damage and no wounded on board.

Anyone that grew up watching the tv series 12 O'clock high would notice that all through the seasons until General Savage was shot down, his Picadilly Lili was two aircraft, ground shots were of a B17G model, as indicated by the chin turret, and the shots of the flying Lili was an F model, with no chin turret.

All the spaghetti westerns as well as "once upon a time in the west" were filmed in Spain, as indicated by the plants and the fact most of the actors had to have their dialogue dubbed.

Now that I have thoroughly spoiled some movies, I return you to your discussion.

Have a nice day.

MattUK2 -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 7:10:46 PM)

Hi jlf1961

I'll rematch those films and look for the anomalies LOL!

One of my favorites is Die Hard with Alan Rickman. Bruce Willis is in New York for Christmas and it shows New York in snow. He's at the airport and makes a call from a pay phone and the pay phone says - PACFIC BELL, California not AT&T in NY.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/8/2014 7:14:36 PM)

Not to mention the tanks that kept changing their shapes and identities in 'Kelly's Heroes' *smile*................and the 'Dragons Tooth' that wobbled as some random infantryman bumped into it near the beginning.

LadyPact -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 9:31:20 AM)

If a thread is going to be resurrected/brought back, it might as well be one about "The Walking Dead". LOL.

Poor tk is sick as a dog, (we're thinking it's the flu) so instead of beating his ass and going to the munch this weekend, I'm back with another marathon. I was kind of hoping it would distract Me so I'd worry less. Not really happening that way.

Potential spoiler alert for those who haven't watched up to the season four mid break. If you don't want to see what is up to date, stop reading now, please.

I'm another one who is hoping that Judith (the baby) isn't dead. Unfortunately, it's My understanding that Judith was killed off in the comic books. I don't know if the show will stay to that, but it makes Me think that they could go either way.

Darryl isn't in the comic books at all, from what I've been told. I'm another one who won't be thrilled if/when he gets killed. He's really grown on Me. Since he's been splintered off with Beth when the prison fell, I don't see his demise coming this season. Not until the group reunites. (Hopefully, he'll never be killed off but that's just a preference.)

I'd love to see Carol come back. I was kind of disappointed that Rick booted her from the group, rather than watch a storyline where the group had to deal with how to deal with what she had done. I was waiting for weeks to see Darryl's reaction to Rick's decision. That whole three minutes the show spent on that before the Governor's group showed up to try to take the prison was a huge let down. If Carol comes back and the group reunites, they could still pursue that, but it might be one of those things that they just let go. Kind of like the rats at the fence.

The previews that they are showing for the upcoming episodes look really excellent. The second half of season four should be really good.

http://mysite.science.uottawa.ca/rsmith43/Zombies.pdf University of Ottowa paper exploring the likely outcomes of a zombie apocalypse.

Don't know if they use the same zombie mythos as Walking Dead but I thought some of you fans might enjoy it.

Since I didn't read LadyP's post beyond the spoiler alert, I'll jump back to this.

If you haven't read it, Jlf, I'd highly suggest giving World War Z a read (the novel, not the movie that shares a title and little else). I think you would love it. I'd even offer to loan you my copy, except it was already kept by the last person I loaned it out to.

Thanks for the recommend, heretic.

I got most my bullet points off cracked website.

Like any good, and widely interpreted monster, the mythology varies a bit. Brooks, the WWZ author, has it as a virus (with plenty of backstory woven into the book), while The Walking Dead physiology is more ambiguous. The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta had not specifically identified the nature of the plague before their research concluded at the end of the first season.

The spoilsports at Cracked are trying to define this in terms of understood science, with zero accomodation for the unknown unknowns of a global zombie outbreak.

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 2:57:23 PM)

In the episdoe where the group is at the Atlanta CDC, it showed the virus (or whatever it was) reanimating the brain stem. Since the brain stem (if I remember my anatomy correctly) regulates the autonomic nervous system, I reasoned out that the walkers may have sluggish or inconsistent autonomic responses going on without any higher brain functioning. ETA- although, I don't know if that would automatically restart the cardio-pulmonary system. o.0 I'm going to say yes, cuz it is fiction and fiction/fantasy is fabulous for the whole suspending reality situations.

I think that Judith is alive. I doubt the walkers would have taken the time to unsnap the car seat belts and there wasn't near enough gore or blood to lead me to think the baby was attacked in the car seat. Maybe wishful thinking on my part.

I watched the sneak peek previews and it looked like maybe Bob (the drinker who wanted to keep the booze ready for when things 'got quiet') is skewered and a walker. Couldn't tell if it was him but there was a brief moment where Michonne is walking up to it and staring intently as if she recognized him.

I still wonder who was feeding the walkers and who was doing the science experiments on dead animals in the tombs.

Yep, I'm absolutely excited about the return of The Walking Dead. Love the show!

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 3:09:44 PM)

I had a major disappoint at the conclusion of the CDC episodes: If they had truly installed an air/fuel self-destruction system, it would have leveled a couple of blocks all around the building and would have taken-out our intrepid band of heroes along with it. There have been any number of similar issues but that's the one that always comes to mind when those episodes are mentioned.

Of course why they didn't try to head north, where it gets very cold in winter, makes zero sense. But that's a whole discussion unto itself.

I am anxiously awaiting the return of the show. And if you're not watching "Talking Dead" with Chris Hardwick, you're cheating yourself out of some quality decompression time.

PeonForHer -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 3:21:00 PM)

FR

Is the first episode of the new series on tonight? If so, I can watch it tomorrow. Yippee!

LadyPact -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 4:23:11 PM)

Yes, peon, the series starts back up tonight in the US. It's My understanding that it plays in the UK the following day, so I won't do any spoilers of tonight's episode.

ThatDaveGuy, I'm with you about "Talking Dead". I'm almost as addicted to that as I am the regular show.

PeonForHer -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 4:25:13 PM)

Thanks, LP. Oooh, the last series ended on such a cliffhanger. I'll need no recap of it.

TheHeretic -> RE: Walking Dead Marathon (2/9/2014 5:35:13 PM)

We had a nice little mini-marathon of season 4A episodes today. We'll probably take it through the rest tomorrow.
