LadyPact -> Question regarding cell (7/4/2013 11:31:01 PM)

Does anybody know if the method listed on this page works? https://help.ting.com/entries/21010081-Text-Messaging

If you use this method, does it block unwanted text messages?

I've never used it but I think you can call your cell provider and give them the number you wished blocked.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, K. The one I tried above didn't work, so I'm still looking for the right answer.

For anybody who has input, I have Verizon and the phone is an LG model.

What did Verizon say when you asked them about blocking unwanted text messages?

It depends on your provider.
The cited help and support article doesn't mention which provider it applies to.

I checked my own carrier, AT&T, and find they do not support blocking a specific number. But, you can stop ALL text messaging or you can report a number for spamming.

If I get a spam text message, what should I do?

Forward the spam message to the short code 7726 (SPAM) so that AT&T can start an investigation. If you receive a number of spam texts, we recommend putting 7726 into your contact list so that you do not need to remember the numbers.
Do not respond directly to a phone number where you believe the spam text originated. Responding will alert the spammer that your number is genuine.
You may receive other types of spam messages from email addresses that are converted into text messages or from short codes. These types of spam messages should also be reported to our 7726 service.

I assume that procedure works if Ting is your service provider. Contact your actual cell provider for how they block texts.

Bita, I wanted to thank you. I didn't quite make it through the whole method that you listed, but as I was in progress, a lovely instant message box popped up with an opportunity to chat to a Verizon rep. A very nice person took care of the whole matter.

Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your help, along with the others gave advice on the thread, as well as on the other side. It really is greatly appreciated. [:)]
