First of all, scream, yell do whatever you want to protest, we are talking about Texas, one of the most conservative, backward, bible thumping, god fearing, Sunday morning Christian states in the fucking United States.

I know, I live here.

if we never agree on any other thing ever, we can certianly agree on THAT!

I know I lived there too, and its why I LEFT!

which brings me to a seperate point, if its so horrible there, (and I agree it is) why STAY?
seems to me thats what the founding fathers intended originally, if the majority of a people in a state want to be, "conservative, backward, bible thumping, god fearing, Sunday morning Christians" then thats thier right, you don't like it move to a state that more in line with your beleifs...

I moved there on a promise of good money, and found NO amount of money was worth living in that state!

I will say this though about texas, I have lived in quite a few places, and NEVER EVER have I lived anyplace where the people are more willing to "lend a hand"

I was running low on gas one night, stopped to buy as much as the change in my pocket would get me, less than a dollar, and this guy must have seen me counting my change and just walked up to me and handed me a dollar, just completely out of the blue. and thats just one of dozens of stories I could tell about the kindness of the people of texas I have experienced in the year or so I spent there

I was living in seattle, no car at the time, and had a LONG walk to get to where I met my ride each morning, all the time I was there only ONCE did anyone offer me a ride, and guess where that ONE PERSON was from, unhuh TEXAS!

hahaha

but other than that I HATED it there!

Maybe Texas is more used to seeing people broke or with no ride at all. Course. what does an old cheese head from Wisconsin know ?

Thats not exclusive to Texas.

I have bought milk, eggs, bread, ect when someone in line ahead of me didnt have enough money. As a waitress, I used to buy meals for people who were homeless or broke...

My dad was one to always stop to help someone stranded on the side of the road... he would fix cars, change tires, offer rides, buy gas...

I never offered a reason as to why people there were like that, just said I saw it happen ALOT more than saw it happen anywhere else I have ever lived

maybe you are right, maybe its due to the fact the land itself is inhospitable and people there are used to banding together against the universe

hell I don't know WHY, just know what I saw!

I never said it was exclusive, just that I felt it happened there on a scale I felt was well above average!

BTW to the cheesehead, I lived in millwauke for a year too, due to very restrictive unions there I had to take a job answering phones at a cab company on the grave yard shift, standing at the busstop at 6 am in subzero weather snow up to my knees and not ONE SINGLE PERSON offered me a ride!

What they are used to is that stranded in Texas can be fatal between the distances the heat etc.

Had a flat a few miles west of Carlsbad NM. When I started unloading the car to change the tire two guys from an oil field came over brought a jack over changed the tire for me and told me were to get a tire in town where I wouldn't get ripped off.

Two years later I had another flat on the D C beltway.
Guy in a big Chrysler with N Y plates stopped when I started changing the tire.
He asked for directions even though I had Mo. plates on my car.
Never even acted like he knew I had a problem.

It is common throughout the south.
