I used to believe that people in alt communities, whether it is BD/SM, Trans, Gay/Lesbian, whatever, were going to be more open minded and libertarian then the 'vanilla' world......and what I found that it often was the same bullshit, those telling others how to live, claiming superiority, etc.....I think the low for this had to be at a BD/SM group I belonged to, where this idiotic political battle came about over arcane bullshit, I thought for a second I was around a bunch of hyper soccer moms running the PTA or something, it was pathetic *sigh*.

Along with this, I used to believe in the common sense of most people, as I have gotten older, my beliefs are becoming more and more like HL Mencken's, when he said no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

LOL.

I have to agree it doesn't make you cool. I know for him it is humbling, but not many get to see that side of him :)

That the guys with strings of ever changing girls were cool

Your right.. It's not cool.... It's what can do with them that makes you cool. Lol

KnightofMists -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 10:31:20 AM)

I use to believe I was a god!

I use to believ I was the dark prince!

I use to believe I was a master

I use to believe I was an asshole

Now I realize... I am just a man... A rather ordinary man at that

xXsoumisXx -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 11:49:16 AM)

I used to believe that men who called themselves "Dominant" somehow had more honor and integrity than those that didn't.
I blame whoever sent me to Castlerealm. [:D]

lilcracker -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 11:56:01 AM)

I used to think you needed to Sir and Ma'am everyone who was Dom(me)....that submissive's moved up to become slaves....that protocol was required in every single relationship and they were naturally the same in every relationship (like do not look at a Dom's face)....that I could not survive without BDSM.....and the topper that CastleRealm was a bible for everyone.

When I was very young (four, five or six-ish) I believed that dogs were the male of the species and cats were the female. That haunts me to this day, considering my mild, non-professional success with animal husbandry.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I believed that too and to go further that only boys liked dog and only girls liked cats.

SoulAlloy -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 1:18:19 PM)

As a kid I used to believe a monster with tentacles lived underneath everyone's fingernails, even had several nightmares about it...

BDSMwise, not sure. Possibly that I believed I'd never crossdress :p

Missokyst -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 1:33:42 PM)

Regular life wise I believed too much for too long. I can tell you a story about the tooth fairy that might rattle your perceptions. BDSM-wise I am shattered to admit that there was nothing to believe in for me. No truth, no honor, no special place, rather much like regular life. I say shattered because I wish I could have had a belief system in place, even if it eventually burst.

Yeah, this and that fact that those Dominants had come to the realization that they were Dominant by actively trying to be good leaders and do what was best for everyone involved instead of what suited them. [:'(] Yeah, I know. I honestly thought a Dominant would try to do what was best for me and the relationship - that he would never take advantage or worse yet, go into kink with the intent of taking advantage.

Also, that if a Dominant had the equipment and went to do kinky things with you, that he'd researched it and was knowledgeable about what he was doing.

At a time long ago and in a far away land I had so much misplaced trust it was sickening.

I used to believe that the Earth was flat and extended for an infinite distance. So was the moon, which was high up in the sky and beyond the sight of eye. So I couldn't figure out how Apollo could have landed on the moon. I asked my dad, "Does Apollo go through a hole at the bottom of the moon in order to land on top of it?'. My poor old dad - no wonder he used to get migraines.

There's a lesson in there about hypotheses built upon on hypotheses, all of which are wrong because right at the bottom of them all is an assumption that is utter bollocks.

I used to think that people were barbies, and my barbies were people and they had barbies etc etc...

I used to believe CastleRealm was the root of all evil in the leather community. Since then, several other well intentioned people have unwittingly become icons of our demise . . . even some that predate CastleRealm have had their comments or papers resurrected through quotes to live on like bad zombies that roam freely in the hetro-one-true-way-safe-slap-&-stickle BDSMers that treat leather like a sexless religion to be "done the right way".

Just think though, RS. If CastleRealm was still up, we could have sent all of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" types there. [8D]

I used to believe that pineapples grew on trees. Imagine my shock when I saw a picture of a pineapple grove and they were all on the ground in bushes. :O

Not that I believed this. Years ago when they had that Talk Sex with Sue show on Oxygen a woman caller believed that there was a spot in your rectum that if touched it would kill you instantly. I howled with laughter after hearing that. Can you just imagine the autopsy? "So what killed this one?" "Anal sex."

Hillwilliam -> RE: Most embarassing things you used to believe? (7/6/2013 10:07:52 PM)

I used to believe that if you swallowed a watermelon seed, it would sprout in your stomach and you'd have a watermelon vine growing out of your mouth and nose.

I love you and the way you think. I was willing to buy castlerealm.com and go to the waybackmachine to pull an old copy and repost it to the web for all 50 shades of tourists. Unfortunately castlerealm.com is already registered privately through Network Solutions and I cannot reach the owners.

To answer the OP sincerely, the most embarrassing thing for me was not realizing the extreme differences between the straight leather community and the gay leather community so I didn't adjust my behavior and expectations accordingly for years. I held onto the spirit and stick togetherness of the gay leather community and was often embarrassed because hetros don't behave like that. The gay community raised money by thousands, held protests, had meetings, hired legal teams and made changes. On the hetro side I couldn't get that kind of participation and the attitude was down trodden feeling that things would never change. I embarrassed myself several times looking like an overactive zealot before I found a happy medium.

Honestly...I believed at one time that no educated & confident woman would voluntarily refer to herself as a slave or that an educated woman would ever be stupid enough to believe that someone else could be trusted to make decisions that impacted her..

Now, here I sit an educated & confident female slave that realizes that, not only is it possible to trust someone else that much, there is a good chance that this person will put your interests above his own...

Wish we had a like or a love feature so I could use it here...
