Both Hollywood and original versions of the film/series were ace, as was the book. If you've missed these, *you have not lived*.

They weren't bouncy and cheerful - but, let's face it, they were Scandinavian. The Scandinavians don't *do* 'bouncy and cheerful'.

I absolutely loved the books! I haven't watched the original films but I was a bit disappointed with the American version. I didn't like how they changed the ending and I feel like a lot of the plot twists that were present in the book were absent in the movie. Anyway, the overall story is still amazing and everyone should read the series!

I'm almost ashamed to admit I've not read any of the books and haven't seen any version of the movies. Looks like Im going to have to remedy this situation fairly soon

The original films really do the books justice. You can find the entire series -- three or four, if I am remembering correctly, on Netflix.

I got the books with high hopes, but frankly, I disliked them.

The beginning of the first book was rather boring, but it was worth slogging through it.

I would have enjoyed the first Swedish movie better had not I been trying to read the subtitles on my mother's small TV and having to explain things to her throughout the movie. IIRC, the second Swedish movie left out a major plot point in the beginning, which kept me guessing during the book.

I would like to see the American version(s).

I've read and thoroughly enjoyed all 3 books. Haven't seen any of the movies. Not sure I want to, either. I find most Hollywood movie versions of good books to be disappointments.

[:D] I saw the American movie. That drove me to the books.

The film clarified the characters who were dense in the book.
