I tend to be very suspicious, especially when i feel like the expert tag is so much there, it wants to jump at my throat and say * see, see?? do you feel intimidated now??*

I dont remember whose post it was who said to maybe give the runner a chance and listen to what he has to say....but honestly, my liar alarm would be near me when listening.

littlewonder -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/7/2013 8:56:18 PM)

I never cared what they were an expert at. All I cared about was the conversation we were having. But if I saw they had everything marked as expert, the conversation almost always ended up that they could barely speak English, let alone be an expert at anything at all. So I would just ignore them.

hrxxx -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/8/2013 12:23:50 AM)

When someone says to me that they have 30 years of experience, I know immediately that they are lying. An average person sleeps 1/3 of his life, and to my knowledge there is no one who can gain experience when they sleep, so it's safe to say they are lying, and if people are lying about 10 years of their experience! Then I can only assume that most of what they say is a lie.

So if one expert says "I have 30 years experience in this field" So it's safe to say that this expert is platonic liar and can not tell the difference between right and wrong, a lie or truth. I will say this expert is very untrustworthy.

If an expert says "I have being in this field for 30 years, and I am not without experience" So it's safe to say that this expert knows the difference between right and wrong, truth, lie. And I would say this expert is very trustworthy.

Experience has nothing to do with how many years, but how much you learn during these years

Old guard experience vs. youth experience
In Denmark, there was a boy 14 years old who hacked, two government websites, with small and limited data equipment, I think it is a clear proof that it is possible for youth to outperform people with many years of experience, and who call themselves expert's.
So I would say if youth sets out to study and learn about a subject hard enough, then they can easily become expert's within a field and surpass expert `s with much farther experience.

And again

Experience has nothing to do with how many years, but how much you learn during these years

Interesting way he has to justify his lack of "knowledge".

Ah yes... I think you're confused.

You've settled on an understanding of "30 years of experience" that is somewhat special.

When people say that, what they mean is that some 30 years ago they started doing that thing, and since then have been doing it on a pretty regular basis.

Some might find it a little silly to interpret it as having done something non-stop, without sleep, for 30 years.

I hope that helps

crazyml -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/8/2013 1:04:04 AM)

Plainly it doesn't make much sense to take these things too seriously.

I've listed myself as an expert in a few things. There all things I'd be happy to introduce a newcomer to.

If there were an "advanced" setting just before expert, I'd propbably switch most, but not all, of my designations to that.

ResidentSadist -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/8/2013 2:40:28 AM)

It's a damn good thing I don't have 30 years experience . . . I have 41. And no BDSM in our sleep? Seriously? Then what do you call sleeping with them tied, chained, cuffed, blindfolded or caged . . . is that vanilla?

<in my best Foghorn Leghorn voice>
Listen here sonny, I get more BDSM experience in my sleep than you can ever imagine. I'll have you know I am BDSM while I sleep, M/s when I wake and sadist when aroused . . . and sometimes I get aroused in my sleep sonny! So stop talkin' all that foolishness, you just make yourself look silly every time you post like that and show us how little you know. I think it's time you stop teachin' boy and do some learnin'. In the meantime, I'm gonna put you back on ignore 'till you grows up some and start speaking things worth hearing.
</end of voice>

Speaking of BDSM in your sleep, a while ago I posted that info about the remote control padlock so us lazy Doms can let you slaves out in the morning to make coffee while we do BDSM from our sleepy beds.

Just sayin'

Let me give you an example, here from real life

Two different girls statements on experience

I have 30 years experience in BDSM
(I know all about BDSM)
As you can see, this is an expert who want you to believe the expert's word above all else.

I have been in BDSM scene for 30 years
(I know something about BDSM but not all)
This is an expert who knows BDSM, is a very large area, and knows that she can not know everything

I can only say if you can not tell the difference, then you might be an easy prey to cons and scams

Yes you will not believe people had 30 years of experience into one drive, without sleep or eat, but I doubt you think of it when someone says to you "I have 30 years experience" it is more the expert who want you to put more power in the sentence and make you believe the expert above all.

My experience outside and in BDSM is that if someone says. "I have so many years of experience" then they are properly lying or they are inexperienced which is the same as lying, in my eyes.

You can judge the expert `s as you like! and I do as I always done.

OP asked to tell the difference between expert and non expert, and I have given my views on it. Did you make a view on it? Or did you not have any

From my own life, I can only say if a girl ask about my experience, I say that I'm not inexperienced, and if she wants to know how long time, I say since I was 22 years old. But I am not an expert, I just know a lot, many others don`t know.

[EDITED TO REMOVE SNARK]

Hello,

I've just checked your profile out, and you're indeed not from the UK or the USA, so I'm assuming that English is indeed your second language.

Which makes me look a little bit like an asshole for taking the piss out of you.

I'm really sorry.

So... Can I offer you some genuine help with the idiom?

Previously in my life I worked at a bar for a few years, and you learn a lot about people who brag, one thing people brag with is how many years of experience they have, and usually they know very little about what they are talking about! If anything.

Thank you for looking at my profile, you must know one thing! I'm not into men, so there is no chance for you, just so you know

crazyml -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/8/2013 4:31:33 AM)

There I go trying to be nice.

You don't understand the expression, which means you're coming to a conclusion that might make someone think that you're a stupid dick.

If you're going to get your panties in a twist that's ok, and you needn't worry - I'm straight, and besides I have a strong preference for confident, intelligent submissives in any case.

Slight hijack of own thread, but if someone hasnt technically done something wrong, but they worry you and flood your inbox, can I block them just for that? And if someone is filtering to bulk, is it possible to get them back to inbox?

TNDommeK -> RE: "experts" everywhere (7/8/2013 8:09:07 AM)

You can block them if they wear a color that pisses you off. The block button can be hit as many time and for whatever reason you like.

Crazy, I must admit, I was going to warn you about his...erm....posting style, but I love your snark so much that I just didn't. [:D]

Last night; all night, I dreamed that I was involved in an exacting arguments about luggage dimensions, didn't matter, get up to piss, wake up cuz my shoulder is a asleep, wake up to flip the pillow over to an area where there is less drool than currently................right back to heated arguments about luggage dimensions..........don't tell me I ain't no goddamn expert in BDSM.

You all are just out here fucking around, I am a PROFESSIONAL.

And you can quote me.

On the other side, everyone is an expert everything.Whenever I see that I assume its bs. But then it occurred to me that some things that one is expert in might make sense that if they were experts in something else. So I guess, how do you weed thru "experts"? Any ways to tell if its true or not true? How much experience constitutrs an expert? Can someone young be an expert in old guard? Speaking of, does old guard expertise create the expertise elsewhere
.

Answering this as tho it were first post. Have not read rest of thread. You Will meet a ton of fake experts wherever you go. But especially in BDSM. Some of these fakes even con entire clubs to proclaim them as "Masters" or some such nonsense. I recommend you stay sepeeate from any club that includes any amount of group mentality. And no matter a persons "standing" in the local cominity you vet them as hard as anyone without a rep. In my experiance most clubs are just as silly as high school and no more accurate than A high school click...It's mostly a pop contest not a skill or knowledge test. Despite any statements to the contrary that may sound legit on the outset.

Be suspicios and discerning as hell when dealing with your locals. Then you will do fine. Assume they need to define why they deserve a place in your life. Do not make your life or desires fit your locals. Ever! Find your bliss instead.

I would have to agree on such things. Unfortunately there is no real particular way to weed through "experts" without a sense of skepticism. Many can lie about what they perceive as expertise, or your opinions on the matter can easily fluctuate. For instance, perhaps you view an "expert" as someone who has 6+ years experience in the topic, while they viewed the "expert" tag as a strong sense of familiarity.

Either way it's the same thing as having met an individual for the first time. If you wished to test their "expertise" without actually being put into the situation, you could refer to questions that only an advanced player would know. Mostly though, it's your gut and their reactions which could be very tell-tale about their experience. I try to air on the side of caution with most things, since I am yearning for more physical practice and experiences, though I am often restricted to my own devices. Thus I'll make a note that I am always open or willing to learn more.
