ORIGINAL: BrisbaneMaster73 I'm sorry if I struck a raw nerve with so many of you with that post. Don't kill the messenger. The number of total posts of some of the responders is just staggering. In fact, there seems to be a direct relationship between the number of total posts someone has and their level of snarky misplaced anger. Anyway, the gist I seem to be getting from you is that I'm a prick for thinking a bdsm site and its forums should be pretty much about bdsm interests and not politics or religion or the weather or whatever is popular this minute. Not sure how to respond to something so self-evident. It's like asking me to prove that 1 is greater than 0. If you need to argue that then just move onto the next post, you'll never get it. A popular response was along the line of "don't like it, don't come here". I'm fine with that, just stop spamming the main server with the latest shit to come from here. I'm forced to read this garbage every time I logon. I don't have the choice not to. Surely even the dimmest of you understood that from my initial post. There was also a lot about "because my kink isn't me" sort of replies. Now, knowing my audience, maybe I should have been clearer about this in my initial post. But that is *exactly* what I was saying about you. You have your kink, which is fine, enjoy it, whatever. But why do you have to come to a kink site to discuss the fucking weather? If I want to discuss the weather, or find information about it, or find an expert on it, or whatever, I'll goto a weather site, not a kink site. It is exactly the fact that your kink controls your life and the people you associate with that makes the place so shitty. The reason you come here and have a million posts is exactly because your kink is your life. To summarise, there are a gazillion places online where you can chat with better informed people about any topic you want to, why do it here if you are "more than your kink"? Nah-you're not a prick for thinking that way-don't give yourself too much credit-but rather narrow minded. Just because you think one way doesn't mean the rest of us do. Think about it like going to a BDSM club. Whenever you go there are certain people playing, using the cages and crosses etc... But there's almost always a much larger contingent gathered round doing the social thing, talking about the weather, friendships, people, current events, bondage tips, whatever. And I dunno about you, but I'm a grown man, control my emotions and everything. My kink doesn't control my life, I control my kink. The reason I come here and have a few posts is because I came originally to learn some things, maybe pick up a pointer or two, share an experience. Instead, I found some people I like, others who annoy me, some worthwhile discussions on some interesting topics and the occasional fascinating dialogue. As for where and when-The wise man is willing to walk through life with eye's open, cognizant of the fact that lessons can come from anywhere and everywhere. It's not situational or site driven. Point in example (And I've argued this one with focus before)-Rolling Stone is a magazine about music, rock usually. Not what one thinks of as really deep. But their finance writer, Matt Tiabbi, is maye the best around at digging upon financial dirt. The guy routinely smokes the Wall Street journal and NYT-it's not even kinda funny how much more on point he is than elsewhere. Another example-I frequent some heavy duty sports sights, places that are really number oriented-heavy duty statistics. The cats on there tend to be economists, lawyers, finance people, cats who are uber smart and play with numbers for fun. These guys lay out some of the best ethical/moral/philosophical arguments/debates I've ever seen, far better than those found on sites dedicated to that purpose. People have wide ranging interests. Most everybody is an expert on at least one thing in life. Personally, I like kink. But it doesn't define me or is all that I am. Thinking that way would lessen me as a man, as a human. I've assembled a lifetime of experiences, some good, some bad, a lot of education and some real expertise in a few things that I can actually speak authoritatively on. Why wouldn't I share that shit if it's asked? And the forums allow that, which is pretty cool. Now, all that said, I tend to hit only a few forums here. WTF-It's a buffet-why sample what I don't care for? I bounce through general discussion, ask a master, ask a slave and off topics interspersed with the very occasional journey into P&R (too loony over there for my taste-that's where to find the real wing-nuts). If you don't care for the non bdsm stuff, that's what I'd advise you to do. ETA-And y now it should be obvious what the forums are really here for-my personal amusement, but of course.
