You're not the only one who reads the news. So if you don't have a thought or concern to say about current events, why enlighten us with the news? I already see it on TV, the Paper, on the Radio, an even when I first log on the Internet. I doubt there's anyone on CM that became a member to read the news. So do us all a favor and stop passing the news this way. If we were interested, we would already be having a discussion about it.

Termyn8or -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/27/2006 8:51:31 PM)

That was uncalled for.

This is "Off Topic Discussion".

Actually it is news to me. I think what he and MasterRenegade do is great. If I am not interested I won't click.

Yeah but where is your discussion?

Lordandmaster -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/27/2006 9:09:22 PM)

If YOU'RE not interested, you can just leave the thread alone instead of going out of your way to complain about it.  Other people, obviously, are interested.

  "Other people, obviously, are interested."

Oh really? So what are your thoughts on the Chinese Government controlling its News Media? Should we as human beings move to China to aid the citizens to rise up with Revolution? Should the US go into China like it did Iraq and Afghanistan to revolutionize its government into a democracy?

What say you on China and its controll over the citizens?  What should we do about it?

Other than that, how will the new law/decree effect the reporters of BBC, CNN, and FOX News when they go to China to record stories? Will there footage be confiscated before they are allowed to leave the country?

As much as China may like to, I don't see it being able to stay hidden from the world. It's already done to much to go into hidding now.

Lordandmaster -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/27/2006 9:41:05 PM)

It won't last; no; and no--but since those weren't sincere questions, I'm not going to give more extensive answers than that.

Well I guess no one gives a damn in talking about China. Termyn8or said it
"This is "Off Topic Discussion" "

And he is right. This in an Off Topic Discussion Board. However, it's not a News Post board. I don't mind seeing news links, I just don't see the point if there's not going to be a discussion, oppinon, or debate about it.

The OP could have atleast read "I think this SUX and we should...."

What's the purpose of a news link if there's no oppion of the Postee to discuss?

Catch my drift?

So do I. They're doing a good job. To anyone posting links to these news stories : Keep doing what you are doing and don't let a single person here deter you. If another doesn't like the story or the thread, let them go read something else; no one is forcing them to participate.

Edited to add:  Didn't read the story due to some kind of script problems with my browser. But I do wanna say that any American corporation which has acted in complicit manner surrounding China's attempt to quash its populations furtherance with regard to freedom of speech, freedom of thought and freedom of inquiry, should have it's board of directors taken out to the wood shed and beat senseless with a rubber hose.

The official position of our government with regard to PRC/PLA is one called ''Engagement'' {Google it} which basically means : We take a friendly position and ''engage'' / trade with them. And with every opportunity for contact, we continually indoctrinate their populace & politicians to/with democracy and ''western'' concepts and ways of thinking. What Google and Yahoo have done and/or doing, is totally arbitrary to that theory/ position and is a major setback for those trying to attain the most basic human rights..

Kedikat -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/28/2006 12:06:15 AM)

Actually China and a couple other countries that are trying the socialist/capitalist/communist mixture are interesting. But it mostly inspires only observation from me. The concepts and actions being so strange, I can't formulate many ideas or opinions.
One thing I do notice. Some capitalist countries are going to some of the worst things in old communist socialist countrys, via the unbridled capitalism. An odd consequence. The basic concept of a capitalist business is to be the one and only, in control of all it can control.
Controlled news can be the result of a communist government, or a monopolistic capitalist media.

And I appreciate the odd random link to something I may not have noticed.

Termyn8or -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/28/2006 1:38:56 AM)

See, there is a discussion !

How true. One thing that we should remember, capitalism is not democracy, it is an animal that needs to remain in a cage.

pahunkboy -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/28/2006 12:30:09 PM)

Hi all.

I could have thrown in a comment. I try to only post stories we might not see.

That's just it, I'm interested when I see the title. Ever since pahunkboy joined the boards I've always been egar to hear what he has to say. But now, I click on his post and all that's there is a news link. There's no input, oppinion, nor commit. It's just a news link. What's there to participate in? I find it very discouraging to see just a news link when pahunkboy has a wide range of thoughts and oppinions that all of  enjoy discussing despite any agreeing or disagreeing.

I guess not everyone can subscribe to a paper or a news web site. Sheesh, I guess it is nice of you to be helping the people who can't type www.drudgereport.com

pahunkboy -> RE: China Considers Fines for 'Sudden Event' Reports (6/28/2006 3:10:03 PM)

I had gotten in trouble per the mod- by cutting and pasting.

---I think I met someone.  *smiles--jumps up and down* :-)

Actually.... I think he's offered up a fair amount of commentary in most of his posts. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to scour Drudge, Reuters or the AP all day looking for obscure pieces of news. But let me tell ya.... I'm glad a few do and bring them to the attention of the participants here. The ''net neutrality’’issue is extremely important and one I had no idea that the house /senate was talking about. So I'm glad he took the time to bring it up for discussion. [;)]

There's no need to cut and paste a news article. Presenting it as a link is fine. But rather than just posting the link, I'd like to know what you think about the story and if you have any solutions to the problem if any. Pointing things out that you find odd, happy, and or disturbing about the article would also be nice. It gives us a better start for discussion.
