You make a really good point here. I can totally see a 17 yr old deciding to double back and teach that asshole not to follow him anymore. I can also see it never dawning on the kid that that asshole might have a gun. Maybe I was wrong and Zimmy does have a case for self defense.

If it had been me... I wouldnt have gone home regardless. Many seem to forget there was a little brother at home.

At 17 I was a monumental ass. To say I made bad decisions is an understatement. I once peed on a cops shoes while he was wearing them.

ok.. what is the rest of this story then???

My parents both died before I graduated high school and I hated my step mother so I got emancipated and got a place of my own the summer before my senior year. Of course my friends all deemed that at terrific reason to have a party in my, tiny, apartment. A neighbor called the cops about the noise. When he pounded on the door I answered it, drunk out of my mind, Apparently, I remember none of this, I dropped trou and let it go while he was telling me to quiet it down. Luckily my older brother was on the force and so I only got taken to jail for the night.

you were very lucky.. that would count as assaulting a police officer, wouldnt it?

In the small town I'm from I'm pretty sure it qualifies for found dead in a ditch.

oh crap.. I can't imagine that.. I did not grow up in that kinda place.. I never distrusted cops where I was from, here I do.. all the time, I dislike a cop car driving past me cuz I can feel their eyes on me, assessing if I am some sorta "criminal" or if they have any "cause" to stop me..

I have been followed before and no way would I have gone home.. if the follower is a perv or out to do you harm, the last thing you want is for him to know where you live..

We were taught to go to the closest house with lights on and knock on the door if we saw anyone following us. I can't say if I would have done that if it had happened because it never did. If I had been a guy and in decent shape, I probably would have confronted him but I was an idiot back then and thought I was invincible.

tazzygirl -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/12/2013 6:18:13 PM)

HANNITY: Is there anything you regret? Do you regret getting out of the car to follow Trayvon that night?
ZIMMERMAN: No, sir.
HANNITY: Do you regret that you had a gun that night?
ZIMMERMAN: No, sir.
HANNITY: Do you feel you wouldn’t be here for this interview if you didn’t have that gun?
ZIMMERMAN: No, sir.

HANNITY: You feel you would not be here?
ZIMMERMAN: I feel it was all God’s plan, and for me to second guess it or judge it --

After this, people still consider he felt he was in a fight for his life?

I have had a 17 year old. infact we were both 17, she was smooth sophisticated and very well rounded. It may come as a shock to you but she always got her own way, unlike myself.

Yes, but yours was a London teen, PS. They're different. She was probably already running a protection racket, kidnapping minor royals for the ransom and leading a gang of bank robbers by the age of ten.

my first boyfriend (he was 18 & had long hair) and I were driving along and for no reason this redneck pulled his car in front of us, he got out of his car and came up to my boyfriend and reached in to grab him thru the open window.. my boyfriend had his wits about him and he put the car in reverse & stepped on the gas, the redneck was dragged some distance cuz he was hanging onto the car, he finally let go and then we drove across a vacant lot so we got away.. that was only a few blocks from where I lived.. but I was afraid that guy would see me or my boyfriend in the area and try to come after me/us..

Not every kid is confrontational and not every kid gets into trouble cuz of something they did.. Martin was running away from Zimmy & hiding in the bushes.. he told his girlfriend he was afraid of him.. I can understand it if he didnt head home knowing some nutbar with a shaven head was following him for no reason.. I know how scared I was when my boyfriend was stopped and attacked & I was afraid he would find where I lived.. I was glad to move from there..

You may have missed the point. I'm all for your right to not carry a weapon. I'm satisfied with the outcome of your adventures. I don't evrn particularly care if you think ZImmerman was a pussy or that cops are pussies, etc.

But the fundamental laws on self defense (giving people the right to use weapons) were around long before you could have possibly been 12 or 22.
The old dueling codes went away in the 1800s.

Well, things were different with black powder weapons.

Thanks for hearing me out, in any case.

Unless you are a LOT younger than you come across to me ..

Carrying weapons in Jr. HS or HS was not allowed back in the day, nor 100 or 200 yrs. 'back in the day.'

The kids didn't do duels in school 200 years ago. Not at any primary school age.

The point that you are missing is that if someone comes out of the experience of being pounded upon and/or bitten by dogs on a semi-regular basis, when there was no protection whatsoever from such attacks, from any corner, and then subsequently 'gets over it,' this same person might, just might, not have the greatest sympathy for some fat blob in a red sweatshirt looking for trouble, and then him saying; "but he hit me, an' it hurt too much, an' my mommy wasn't there, so I had to shoot him, 'cause he hit me."

Sorry, but GZ is just a pussy, never been anything other than a pussy, and guess what I think of those defending this pussy?

Just guess.

A klansman blows up a church, but the state screws up the evidence, is his not guilty verdict unjust?

When OJ was found not guilty, I wasnt happy. But I never once blamed that verdict on the jury. We have entrusted people to go into a jury and come out with a verdict... and they dont have to tell us why they came to those findings. I do believe everyone who goes into a jury will discuss what they think, and a consensus will be made, or its a hung jury.

But the truth of this jury will be questioned in your mind... as you have just shown. if they find Z guilty, you will blame the jury as being unjust... which was the point of that long post I made.

There are many people like you who take this far too personally... and thats dangerous.

How about the first Menendez trial where they hung jury in part because one member of the jury admitted feeling sorry for them because they had lost their parents surely you would agree that was an unjust verdict brought on by an incompetent jury.

How is that an incompetent jury? "Use your common sense" An unjust jury would be one that goes into the case with a joint decision to find one way, agreed too by all members, long before the evidence is completely in.

cloudboy -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/12/2013 7:23:22 PM)

It would help this thread if more people paid attention to the good posts or fresh views. I liked your comment, and I liked the insightful op Ed in the nyt. Laws won't likely be changed until more senseless murders are committed.

Not putting words in your mouth but are you saying that that verdict had any connection with reality?

I don't believe there is any significant momentum to change the stand your ground law in florida. nor do I believe that there will be a significant change in the right to bear arms so long as the supreme court composition remains asis.

A lot of people.. some silent, some not so silent, think stand your ground is working as designed.

I don't think you're interpretation is how I interpret it.

I interpret it as "No sir, I wouldn't be here."

Reasonable people seing the same thing and reaching different conclusions.

The Menendez verdict? For that one juror, it very much did. I would rather they all be honest, and have to redo a trial, than for one voice to be silenced among the rest. I cant say what happened in their jury room, but isnt it better than we have people willing to stand by their verdicts than to be forced to change based upon what others think?

This will depend on the senseless murder / acquittal rate. Fox News and co. will have a different slant when a white child is murdered in self defense. This case here does not advance the cause of stand your ground laws. The question is, what will the next case look like, and when will it occur?

BamaD -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/12/2013 7:53:28 PM)

Martin is not on trial and nothing except the claim of a proven liar says Martin started the violence. Do try to keep that in mind Zimmerman is on trial not Martin.

Self defense and murder are mutually exclusive.

This is not the post I intended to respond to.
