May I ask... what do the powers that be think of the experiment with an un-moderated thread? So far I have been surprised how civilized this thread as been. All the hijacks were interesting yet the main subject remains relevant. Yes there has been a bit of name calling and other minor tos violations but not as bad as I thought and all involved seem to not have much of a problem with it.

Do you think that on contentious subjects in the future an un-moderated designation may become common?

I am also curious about the opinion of other posters as to the worth of this experiment...How bout it.

Butch

I'm a bit curious too.
Despite the fanaticism displayed by a few attackers, I'm of the impression that this thread has actually been pretty gentle.
Hell,I suspect it's been a lot more well behaved than many moderated forums

I'm not going to comment publicly on whether I think we should do this again, because ultimately that decision lies with Alpha and the site owners.

I will say though...

You'd be surprised at how many tickets were created about this thread, even though we said it would be unmoderated except for the big ToS violations.

I'm going to ditto what Rho said.

Additionally, I'd like to take this opportunity to add that posts from this thread that would normally have been pulled should not be posted as quotes on other threads.

Yeah, the first post I reported, I brain farted and forgot the nature of the thread. The second one was a legitimate question that was "spill over" from a previous thread.

To me, there's still something amiss when people are dragged into unmoderated threads just so passive-aggressive types can take a few swipes but Que Sera, Sera.

Bye,

Oh I believe it...I think it is just because a lot of people did not understand or pay attention to the Unmoderated designation.

I do understand not wanting or able to comment but I do hope we get some feed back. If nothing else it will stop people from constantly asking or requesting a thread to be unmoderated.

I once used an un-moderated forum over a period of years and I have to say that, as a result of that experience, I'm not in favour of more than an occasional trip down that road again, despite the benefits it's shown here (of thrashing out a subject with no holds barred - and of showing certain people in their true colours).

Most people are OK - ish. Some, though, are not. They just get nastier. So nasty, in fact that, for me, there's a spillover effect. It makes the whole site feel a touch uglier.

When you said "Fuck you, you passive-aggressive bitch-boi," were you being passive-aggressive or aggressive-aggressive?

Kana what I like is the ability to follow any thought that comes to mind... such as this... without fear of moderation. As far as the name calling and personal attacks I think it has been enlightening and shows the true personality of certain posters.

Well, you tell me. Was there anything passive about it? No? Didn't think so.

Thanks for playing,

Ooof, good call Chi.
I would never have thought of that.

Tickets eh? Good thing I'm not pretty naturally rude or an attacking name caller by nature. I didn't realize that any posts would be moderated, thanks for the correction.
Cripes, now that I think about it, I can't remember the last gold letter I received. I'm on a roll, watch out world!

TA-Noting that despite the lack of moderation, a few posters who seem to do nothing but attack or troll, the net hasn't blown up, CM hasn't crashed, and there's no blood in the water or body parts. All in all, I'd say from this perspective, the experiment is a success

It has been an eye - opener. Now I have a much better idea of what the Mods have to deal with.

I do understand what you are saying... I've always said that if there were to be no moderation it should be limited to one forum or thread at a time. I would not want a site wide lifting of the ban.

I will say that it was nice to not have to slog through 60+ pages of a post.

You tend to speak from your perspective and use "I statements." It's "you statements" that get people into trouble.

See light at the end of the tunnel... Thanks for the comments....and remember it is unmoderated so you can let your hair down and let us have it. Wouldn't you like to tell some of us what you really think?
