Grandkids in my family's case. My grandfather on my dad's side was as racist as they come, though that trait ended with him. My dad was very big on teaching that color has nothing to do with who you are as a person (which is why I really see skin color as nothing more than a descriptive word akin to hair color, eye color, or shoe size.)

Meanwhile, I have a black brother-in-law, and a cousin. Both of whom are awesome people.

Oh, yes! I've only known one set of parents who were very openly racist - the parents of a boyfriend from college. Years later, thanks to Facebook, I saw that he married a women of the exact race that his parents had always derided.

The wide spread usage of thug to refer to a young man who had had no significant run ins with the law or history of violence is otherwise nonsensical.

Not everyone who uses it is using it to reference any color, so you can't use your own meaning for the word to fabricate another person's intent.

Point out something akin to racism I have been okay with, giving a quote of mine as an example, and I will get back to you.

There is nothing emotional in my rants, nor racist, nor left wing, despite consistent accusations to the contrary.

If you said the word thug in front of my friends husband, he would assume you meant black or at least dark skinned. Of course that is because he associates thug with criminal and to him all criminals are black. Not surprising seeing as his is an ignorant racist pig.

Some people don't make that leap. Personally when I hear the word I think of the old gangster movies I used to watch with my mom and they were mostly white thugs. I did use it to describe the asshole who robbed me but that was because he was a thug and now he is sitting in prison.

Now if you could admit that it means different things to different people, that would be a step in the right direction. But you seem to think your way is the only way so all I can say is...preach on brother, preach on.


note to those who are going to call me on using "brother"...it's in reference to the old time tent preachers and has nothing to do with race.

That was a while back and we had moved on to DK's insanity with K. But since you insist on bringing it back up. yea there was nothing racist in the post you had originally quoted and that hasn't changed.
