I think it's a good thing, my dad thinks it's stupid because he believes that no cop would ever just shoot a dog un provoked and I believe they would, there's articles about it happening. When I have said yeah there was an article today about a dog who walked up to sniff the police men an his dog, he decided that was a threat and shot the dog, and my dad says well that's the owners side of the story not what really happened.

there's even an article where cops shot a guys dog who was behind a fence and couldn't get loose or hurt any one an they have several witnesses saying the cop shot and killed it point blank because he could.

As someone who has been bitten twice by dogs unprovoked, I can say it sometimes is that way.

I think officers should be trained to only use lethal force as a last resort.

Ask who? The dog? Wait for the owner? Wait for the OK from some higher up somewhere? I saw a video the other day with cops shooting a dog that jumped out of the car as they were questioning the owner. The dog was growling, barking and exited the car coming at them. The guy was saying don't shoot, but the dog kept coming. So.. ask the dog? Ask the owner? It is not always realistic. I love dogs. But people do not always train them right.

Don't ALL cops ALWAYS carry pepper spray?

So, even if it is a huge, rabid, ravenous, nightmare inspiring, gonna EAT you kinda dog, where is the need to shoot it?

The police wanted to harm Sushi because her teeth were showing.

Dumbasses did not know she has a malformed jaw where she could not completely close her jaws together. Also, she is very protective of the family (rescued from an abusive owner).

God forbid one of them ever has a pug headed toward them.

yeah I read that exact same article, the guy was an idiot and I ultimately blame him.

Ask first, isn't literal lol , What I mean is, they see a dog coming towards them, and it's not acting aggressive or nothing but oh it could be lets shoot it on the spot,. But the article says cops need better training in dealing with animals and I agree. I also half way want to support you shoot my dogs for no reason I shoot you logic, but I know two wrongs do not make a right and I won't condone that, , but I will get behind 100 percent it being a crime for police to shoot innocent dogs on principal.

I googled last night police shooting innocent dogs and the results were heartbreaking. of the first 5 articles I read all of the dogs were not trying to hurt the police, in fact 2 of the 3 dogs they shot in the mans home was trying to GET AWAY from the police, an the police chased them down and shot them. And then was quoted on record as saying that's what you get if you are doing marijuana and you're house is raided cause you're breaking the law. The owner of the dogs was begging and pleading do not hurt my dogs they're scared and want to get away from you, they will not hurt you, and witnesses collaborate this, and evidence of what went down supports the dogs were shot from behind while fleeing.

They shot his other dog point blank in the face WHILE IT WAS BEHIND A FENCE AND COULD NOT HURT THEM simply because it was barking and carrying on , exactly what you'd expect a dog to do when confronted with a stranger.
