I coated all the windows with reflecting thermal foil to keep some of the heat out.
We recently bought a poorly insulated 70s property with black asphalt roof, and black brick covering all the south facing surfaces (which also has the most windows) and no A/C.
We've been getting indoor temps in the high 90s for about 6 weeks now, by late afternoon.
This being Colorado it still cools down into the 60s at night though, so every afternoon, at the first sign of things cooling down, we open up the whole house and get fans going to get the cooler air in, and every morning we shut everything up to trap the cooler air inside. It keeps the house reasonable in temperature until about 2-3pm.
Later this year, when the attic has become a more reasonable working temperature, we'll install fans there, and do some major insulation updating. When the roof is getting replaced in a few years, we'll replace it with a metal reflecting roof, and I'll probably end up painting the brick with a reflective paint at some point as well.
