ORIGINAL: Zonie63 But what does royalty do? I suppose there might be some entertainment value in all the parades and pageantry, but other than that, what's the point? There are various reasons, depends on who you are, I guess and your background.. there are a lot of people in various parts of Western Canada that come from British stock.. My first boyfriend was a combo British & Scottish.. every weekend we would visit his grandparents and have tea (Earl grey prefered) and cookies (shortbread prefered).. it sorta became a tradition.. thats what the Royals are,.. tradition.. its a connection to our (meaning Canada since i am from there) past.. even tho I am not British or anywhere near, but I dont feel I have to be cuz its part of my country's history and heritage.. we didnt boot them out like you guys did.. And our govt asked us if we wanted to be free of the Queen as our figurehead and the majority of us said no, we want to keep her & our Royals.. (ok, ok, so Quebecers mostly disagreed with the rest of Canada but that's what Quebec does.. ).. The Royals come in real handy for ribbon cutting, christening boats and opening ceremonies for stuff like the Olympics, they help various charities too, of course... and they are smashing to put on our (now plastic) money.. Seriously, what more could you ask of the Royal Family? they give sooooo much of themselves!.. Okay, you've convinced me. Now, I think we should have our own royal family here in America. Better still, let's have an Emperor! Once we get the Death Star built, no one will ever challenge us. The American Galactic Empire will spread across the galaxy, with our wise, benevolent, and powerful Emperor leading us to greatness and glory.
