ORIGINAL: Sampleme As a speech language pathologist, I find dialects and accents fascinating. There is one, however, that makes my skin crawl....a Tennessee accent. It's hands down THE WORST accent in the south, which are all pretty annoying, particularly when accompanied with bad grammar and lack of vocabulary. Sad to say, my best friend and a dear cousin are both from "Tinnesee" which freaking drives me crazy. You just keep thinking we're less than intelligent. I'll thoroughly enjoy the fallout. [:D] ETA. I'm truly surprised that a Language pathologist wouldn't realize that there is no "Tennessee accent" per se. There are actually 3 accents commonly encountered in the state. 1. The Appalachian which is most commonly encountered in the area that runs down the eastern border from Mountain City to Chattanooga and basically east of Oak Ridge. 2. The Delta which is most common in the SW corner of the state centered on Memphis. 3. The basic drawl which is encountered in the rest of the state with the exception of Nashville. Nashville is a special case as I don't think anyone who presently lives there was actually born there so it's a hodgepodge.
