You might want to check with the DEC on that one.

Why would you want to? It just causes litter at someone else's house.

It was done on a bridge to mark the one year death of a car accident (2 people were killed by a drunk driver)

The trial is very controversial here.

My point still is that you're making a gesture that only affects those who are doing the balloon release and then a few days later someone else has to clean up your mess.

Or it hurts some poor animal who may try to eat the balloon or something.

Then perhaps it would be better to pass on the mylar balloon release. Annoying things, really. They also piss off air traffic control because they show up on radar, and with their convex shape they look larger than they really are. And whales eat them, I guess.

Just tell them that you're not convinced that littering, and a potential aircraft accident just doesn't feel like the best way to commemorate the lives of these beautiful people.

You might want to review the standards and values you use to pick friends? Avoiding maroons has worked well for me, so far.

The various power distribution companies are less than thrilled by the shorting reputed to happen when the metalized mylar fouls power lines. But safer for you than if holding a line to the balloon? Maybe the following events remove any finger prints from the plastic? Let us know how that works out.
Radar returning toys in Traffic Control Area airspace might get some unpleasant attention as well? I"m unclear how power stoppages or aircraft rerouting/collision panics memorialize anyone positively.

You might have some success with your mouthbreathing friends suggesting the small 'hot air balloons' do a better job of conceptualizing the short bright lives of the dead. As they top out ~500' and don't reflect radar or conduct electricity, fewer unanticipated consequences. Unless you start a brush fire that eats the county?

You gotta admit, that would make it memorable.

For me, the bigger issue is the waste of helium, a finite natural resource that we do not have the ability to manufacture.

Actually, Helium, tho rare in its natural state on Earth, is manufactured by a low temperature extraction process of Fractional Distillation from Natural Gas concentrations. It is finite, in the sense that Natural Gas supplies are finite, but we do have the ability to produce it.

Fuck em, release the balloons in memory of someone that died, anyone gives you shit about it, scream to every media outlet that will listen.

Seriously Pa, go ahead and do it. In this I will back you 110%.

Use latex balloons instead. Cheaper, fly just as well, break down in sunlight after a few days and non conductive. Also, don't use ribbons. Use cotton or jute string instead. Ribbon is a plastic and does not break down the way the organic fibers of cotton or jute do.

This all happened on a local news site- so the threat- which was made 3x was not by a friend- or even a friend of a friend. I blocked him.

So that much should be over. ...should be.

So your claim about being threatened with violence is bullshit, then?
