For overnight up to about a week, a decent size tool bag makes shockingly good luggage. Lots of little pockets for the personal items and a little bit more room for clothes that a gym bag.

Slight threadjack here. I had a friend (sadly deceased now) who mastered the art of ultralight travel. His sole piece of luggage was a fabric shopping bag. He'd have two pairs of underwear/socks, a change of clothes, and one of those travel toiletry kits you buy in the dollar store. If he needed more clothing, he'd just hit a thrift shop and when he was done with it, he'd donate it back.

He is a man. We can't do that.

I have a large rolling backpack on wheels. Handy, because I can carry it up stairs without dragging it. A duffel bag isn't too bad. I see people in the airport and amtrak stations with them all the time. You can carry a lot of shit in those.

We have real luggage, yes, and no it's not monogramed.

I know. My girlfriend has a rolling suitcase large enough for her to get inside. She's taking it with her when we go to Ireland next fall. I'm taking a carry-on bag I can sling over one shoulder. I like being a guy.

Yes, I have a full set of matching luggage. A couple of extra carry ons. No, none of it is monogrammed.

But, I'm also in the travel industry.

I have learned how to travel light over the years. I just make sure I take matching stuff so I can interchange, including shoes. I like real luggage because I don't have to worry about stuff getting ruined. I can put stuff in side pockets and I can fold my clothing neatly and don't have to worry about it being so wrinkled it looks like it just came out of the washer like you get when you throw it in a bag. It's just neater imo.

FR

I do. I have three main pieces:

-- a largish nylon (I think) suitcase with wheels
-- a smaller faux-leather suitcase from the parish rummage sale
-- a jumbo LL Bean duffel that I call the body bag. I bring it out every Christmas because it can fit rolls of wrapping paper.
