I keep getting mailer dameon notices that such and such an email can't be sent and i haven't tried to send any emails, and when I click on the email the message that was trying to be sent was pure jibberish and it's being mailed to every one in my inbox.

What do I do to fix this, short of changing my email address. I have tried deleting all my contacts from my address book but yahoo won't let me.

Sounds like you have a trojen, run your antivirus and see if anything shows up, failing that, have someone take a look.

What email service are you using, if it is online like Yahoo, contact them.

can be some facebook application, it happened to me too, I was using for both (the facebook account and the connected mail one) the same password, I change password and it stopped.

Eulero I don't have face book on that email account any more. I tried logging in one time about a year almost ago and my face book account had been locked, and it said i had to provide them my california Id if I wanted to be let back in and I said fuck that and just opened a brand new account with a different email addy.

I get that about once a year when I click on links in my mail. They send little programs that, if you click, end up dumping all your contacts into a bundle, then it sends mail to everyone on your list. Those people click on the links and the cycle reblooms.

In other words, once the attackers compromise your account, they send the same message to all your friends. If Yahoo’s latest statement from January 11 is to be believed, the company addressed the XSS flaw in question, just apparently not on its developer page.

In the meantime, we recommend the same thing we did earlier this month. Users with a Yahoo account should make a point not to click on any suspicious links they receive by email or from anywhere else. In fact, that goes for all users; don’t click on random links, even if you get them from a friend. If you think your account has been compromised, also change your password on any related accounts, especially if you use the same one elsewhere.

I changed my passcode, did all the scans, then sent out a mail to all my friends explaining the problem.

Massive influx of delivery failures (especially with an account as old as mine 1999) told me 2 things - 1) I had been hacked and 2) I really needed to clean out my contact list. LOL... all those failures were dead accounts now.

Change your password. You have gotten a Trojan in the past that got access to your email. If you change your password, that might fix it. I lost an old yahell account because I failed to do that.

One way to tell is look at your outgoing mail and see if there are any mails actually being sent. Another trick is "spoofers", they get people's usernames from a directory search, and then send out mail from another site with the return e-mail 'spoofed' to your address. I had that happen with an ISP account, it was aweful.

Easiest thing to do is change your password, you should do that semi regularly anyway. You also may want to try running a program like malwarebytes, it can pick up stuff anti virus doesn't.

That happened to me a few months back, and a kind friend who's an Internet privacy guru offered the fvollowing advice:

You should log in and change your Yahoo mail password. You should also go to Settings (the gear) > Mail Options > General > look under the "Advanced" section and turn SSL "on".

You can also go to your account profile and while you're changing your password you can set up other security measures like "Second Sign-in Verification"... basically, if anyone tries to log into your account from a new or different computer or location, it ask you for more info or sends you a text message to verify. This stops hackers dead in their tracks.

one thing to do is click on the "wheel" to go to "account" info
in "account" info click on "view your recent sign-in activity" and that will show all sign ins.. I am in TX but in the past someone from NY accessed my yahoo via mobile sign in.. that is one way I knew that this was a new attack and not just someone who hacked my yahoo ages ago but just kept the list they got then.. and yes, just like dcnovice says, do the ssl thing

It's called phishing. You apparently opened an email that was infected with it and now so are you. Yahoo mail sucks and this happens a lot in their emails. Get a new email. I haven't had a single problem with phishing since I have had gmail for the past few years now since it was first started.

If you don't wanna do that then find a good virus removal program with phishing removal.

i just did a full virus scan and malwar today and i am clean, and I do not open any stuff that i don't know what it is.

Yahoo chronically gets hacked.
It has gotten so bad that several times over the years I've blocked the whole yahoo domain.

If you insist on using a web based email client instead of real email; consider getting a gmail account.
