I keep the dogs off the pavement and on the grass. If we have to cross a parking lot, we do it as quick as we can. I think I am going to have to look into those booties. I also try not to take them out during the really hot hours of the day. One of them is black, and if the pavement doesn't get her, the sun does.

In the summer in South Florida, I used to walk my dog at 7 AM and 8 PM. The sun was off the pavement.

It's important for dogs and humans to get regular exercise.

I actually saw a piece on CNN the other day about doctors in Las Vegas who were warning parents about kids going barefoot on pavement. It has been so hot that it only takes a couple of minutes to burn the feet.

Back in the day when I was a kid if the pavement was burning my feet I stood somewhere else. I didn't actually need a doctor or a medical report to tell me that my feet hurt.

Of course, now that I think on it, I grew up in a place where grass was abundant so standing on pavement was something you did if you wanted to (as a kid... we didn't much care about downtown. We ran around in the woods and by the mill pond and whatnot.

Same. I'm in my bare feet all the time, when I'm not working, much to my podiatrist's admonishment. I have awful callouses on the heels and balls of my feet and extremely high arches. Very sensitive skin at those arches. The doc ordered me to wear arch supports in all of my shoes (only one of the reasons why I'm usually in sneakers these days) and is constantly yelling at me about going barefoot. I do have pain along the arch when I'm walking without the arch supports for any length of time. I just wish something could be done so that I'm not in almost constant pain, shoeless or not.

We are taking her out Tuesday, there's a free dog walk and behavioral exercise event by a dog trainer for dogs that are other dog reactive, and it's good for both us to get out and see others. She does not care about the other dogs and does not react during the exercises, but she does react when a dog wants to get to close to her.
