According to Boehner, Congress should be judged on number of repeals

Boehner: judge Congress on 'how many laws we repeal, not on how many we pass'

For those judging the House for its failure to pass new laws and its dogged determination to repeal existing ones (hello, ObamaCare!), John Boehner would like you to do, well, pretty much just that. In comments on "Face the Nation" Sunday morning, the House speaker said Congress "ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal" and not "by how many new laws we create."

And, since they have done a terrible job of repealing laws, which is the measure that Boehner thinks most important, exactly what have they done? What laws have they repealed? By that metric, they're an even bigger failure.

What an IDIOT!

Detroit is in bankruptcy, Chicago isn't too far behind. That's what happens when no government body says "NO" when the powers in charge say "this is how its going to be!" All the Liberal Democrat big ideas would turn the country into Greece. Even the Unions, who first loved Obamacare, now see its a trainwreck like most Liberal Ideas. Give everybody, everything! worry about the cost later!

No, we don't need a congress who would merely "rubber stamp" goofy, unworkable ideas!

LOL at the ignorance of it all.

Agreed. What we need is a Congress that will stop funding pointless wars.
Please keep in mind that the President cannot spend one red cent of taxpayer money - ALL spending bills originate within Congress. Simply put: "The President propses, Congress disposes".

This country is in the shape it's in BECAUSE the collective members of Congress WANT it that way. You can argue back and forth all day over which side deserves more blame than the other but in the end, the responsibility lies with each and every member.

Peeps do not consider spending an interesting issue. Just look at how well commented the recent topic on Trillion dollar farm bill is. This lack of interest is a good reflection of the American people. We say it is important, but we do not show that it is.

As far as Boneheader, he is just making more comments to distract the people.

WTF? Chicago is not anywhere near being bankrupt.

Got news for you buckeroo - unfunded wars are just a drop in the bucket against our unfunded etitlements.

Sounds like typical Republican rhetoric to me. It's just another way of saying, "Get rid of all this regulation and things will be great".

FR
Has the House actually successfully repealed anything?

Well, I don't know how to break this to you, fellow earth and space traveler, but I'm at least half in agreement with Boehner on this one, even if it's to purpose completely opposite if his intention.

If Congress would repeal the so-called "Banking Modernization Act" of 1999, and the "Commodity Futures Modernization Act" of 2000, which both set financial regulation back to where it was 75 years previous (hence the term "modernization," for cruel irony's sake), the world would indisputably be in a better situation now.

I've got a Nevada highway's-length list of things I'd like repealed.

Did Boehner mention that he'd like all those laws giving tax breaks to the wealthiest repealed?

Yeah, I thought not.

Just another ankle grabber, barking from the gutter.

Volstead act

Marc2b -> RE: Judge Congress on number of repeals!!! (7/23/2013 7:55:51 AM)

The number of laws passed or repealed is meaningless. What counts is which laws are passed or repealed.

cloudboy -> RE: Judge Congress on number of repeals!!! (7/23/2013 9:32:48 AM)

Congress is not inspiring much confidence. The level of debate in the house & senate often mirrors the level of posting in the unmoderated zimmerman thread.
