RottenJohnny -> Dumb Things Politicians Say (7/22/2013 11:25:07 PM)

Remember Richard Nixon saying, "I am not a crook" and Dan Quail (Quayle) spelling "potato" with an "e"?

Well, I caught this blurb from my home page and it reminded me of a book my mom has lying around her house titled "Dumb Things Politicians Say".

Apparently Michelle Nunn (D-Ga) has announced that she is running for the same Senate seat her father, Sam Nunn, used to occupy and I think she may already be on her way to earning an honorable mention in the next printing of the book. It sounds like she has a problem understanding the difference between one and many...and yet, it's just so perfectly poli-speak...

quote:

"I believe in the power of individuals to create change when they join together."

...and

quote:

...Nunn said that she believes abortions should be...

"safe, legal and rare and that women should be ultimately able to make this very difficult personal decision in concert with their doctor and their family."

In response to her announcement to run, a spokesman for the Senate Republicans' campaign committee said...

quote:

...we look forward to a robust debate...

Yeah...my guess is that they're praying for that debate.

In fairness to Vice President Quayle (ahem!), he'd been given erroneous flash card by a teacher at the school.

Nixon's people bugged two buildings and he had to resign. Obama bugged the world and everyone seems to love it.

Sooo, what is stopping the executive branch from bugging all republican communications before the next election ? Nothing. They can easily claim national security because "republicans would.......do what republicans do". And if one happens to win (HEHEHEHE), then they can bug the opposition.

Ever think of that ?

Also, if this thread lives and people bring in stupid politicians' quotes, there is going to be a problem with CM. Overloaded servers, run out of storage, thread count exceeds the 137,000 digit limit and all that. Maybe it should be restricted to just a few people, like Quayle, Ryan and Palin. That should keep the thread going for a few decades. Damn, those are all republicnas huh. Maybe you should elect another one just for laughs......

T^T

LOL...auto spell checker. I'll see if I can correct that.

There ya go. Error left in place just for the humor.

Ok. Maybe that one should be excused but it was far from his only slip.

Sam Nunn is the last D I ever voted for in an election for federal office.

Doesn't sound as though the daughter got too many of his abilities; I remember him as fairly articulate.

What, nobody has yet turned this thread into "The Wit and Wisdom of Joe Biden"?

That would cause a copyright problem with Comedy Central. Doesn't Biden have a contract with them?[8D]

It sounds like she could debate herself. I need a politician like this like I need a hole in my head.

You mean like the time he was talking to a group of blacks and said that the Republicans were "going to put y'all back in chains"?

Yeah...not one of his brighter moments.

Can't have a "dumb things politicians say," without a shout-out to Hank "Guam is going to capsize and sink" Johnson.

"I believe in the power of individuals to create change when they join together."

I'm trying to figure out what you find amusing about this quote.
Isn't a crowd made up of a group of individuals ?
Do these folks stop being "individuals" once they come together for a common purpose ?

Whereas Reagan's "welfare queen," driving a pink Cadillac, and Bush I's "Willie Horton" were the their 'bright spots?' Let's talk about the 'brighter moments.'

Considering all the damage they did directly or otherwise, engendered or manifested both domestically and around the world, we are left with the mere stupidities out of their mouths as being "bright spots," in a relative sense, we are to take it?

Nope. Not at all. IMO, all politicians are fodder for their ignorance. Left or right, black or white. I don't discriminate.
