JJ Cale died yesterday; wrote songs made famous by Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but JJ Cale's original versions were the best, IMO. Here are a few of them:

Cocaine

After Midnight

Call Me the Breeze

He also wrote "She's the Sensitive Kind" one of my favorites, and "Ride me High" -- a great sexy tune, along with "Hum Dinger" another one with fun sexual innuendos.

He shall be missed.

ETA: TY Spirited, I didn't know.

It made me feel old. I didn't recognize She's The Sensitive Kind. Just played Ride Me High; love that one too. On youtube I see that lots of big name bands have played his music. Hope he didn't mind not making it big on his own music.

He probably 'made it' in the best possible way, like John Hartford and others... he wrote some songs for stars that gave him a guaranteed income for life on royalties, he had one Top 40 song that stuck in everyone's ear from the radio, and he was admired by other musicians for his musicianship.

Not making the guest list with Beiber and Minaj? Oh well...

How did I miss this news?
I'm crushed. JJ Cale was a piece of America.

I know. I keep thinking about it and hearing his music in my head. He is a much bigger loss than people know, IMO.

Who is JJ Cale??  [sm=dunno.gif]

Can't say I've even heard of him.

So I guess I won't miss his parting.

One of the great American song writers.

Obviously not that great coz he didn't make much impression over here.

I've never heard of him at all.

ETA: I've not heard those songs either.

Among others, he wrote "Call me the Breeze,After Midnight and Cocaine."

But for those in the know, it's the stuff that's not famous that's so awesome. He's one of those Townes Van Zandt sorta guys, massive influence, much of it done behind the scenes. His writing, his style, greatly influenced the seventies.
