Did not know there was a Law and Order UK. Yes, I don't understand what the History Channel has become. I don't think True Blood is a top tier show --- but it is a nice, light summer distraction. I tend not to like or have an interest in its human characters.

OTHER is leading the way. Thanks for all your responses.

I haven't seen any of those shows except Mad Men, which I love.

I rarely watch TV. Now that the season of Mad Men is over my TV has only been on a couple of times, and that was to put a movie on Netflix.

Yes, most television is "mindless crap." That's the point, isn't it? Too entertain and create an escape?

Justified
The Walking Dead
Nashville
Big Bang Theory

These are the ones I never miss. They're fun and/or they make me want to know what's going to happen next.

I like "Game of Thrones" but am seriously behind in my watching. I can't tolerate "True Blood" anymore. I simply find it a boring chore to watch this season.

The best show in years on television is no longer on television.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Best Show on Television (7/29/2013 1:25:36 PM)

I have never watched any of the shows named-lol.

I have only heard of 3 of them.........

I don't know if I should be proud or ashamed!

If it's not "Law & Order", "Law & Order: Criminal Intent", METS, JETS, or All Blacks, I can't be arsed to sit in front of the TV

ETA: Eh "N.C.I.S." is okay, too

Mets & Jets, my teams!

My guilty pleasures are Duck Dynasty and Fast & Loud. They both make me "Happy happy happy."

Sorry but you're all wrong...

Tis "Doctor Who" [8D]

DesFIP -> RE: Best Show on Television (7/29/2013 9:00:06 PM)

I've never seen any of the above listed shows. I did start to read Game of Thrones on my daughter's kindle but had some trouble with the formatting so never finished.

I rented True Blood once but it diverged so far from the books, I gave it up within two episodes.

The Man watches sports. I read.

I like to watch television while i walk on my treadmill or use my stationary bike. I generally will watch a series' episodes back to back. Shows become long movies for me in that way, and since I stream them on the computer, no commercials! Yay!

I'm currently starting season 2 of Game of Thrones - frankly, I like it. I love the strong and complex characters - both men and women, I like the multi-cultural aspects of it, I like the gritty reality of it (first season seen only so far... no spoilers please!). I had to be convinced by a couple of friends to continue watching after a couple of scenes creeped me out. They were right. It's brilliantly written and acted. The scenery (which is NOT computer generated, btw) is stunning, and the cinematography does it justice. The directing and editing are spot on. The backstories, the interweaving of stories, the breaking of taboos are all quite well done. I'm hoping it stays excellent and doesn't jump the shark.

best,
sunshine

edited to add:

I forgot!!! SERIOUS eye candy... and the swoony accents. <fans self>

Under the Dome for what is currently airing. I am sure that will change by November when all the new shows are out.

kalikshama -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/14/2013 5:53:20 AM)

We've started watching Mad Men on Netflix and are really enjoying it.

igor2003 -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/14/2013 6:25:02 AM)

I've been a big fan of NCIS for a long time, but somehow it just isn't going to be the same now that Cote de Pable is leaving. I just hope they don't kill her character, so if she ever decides to return to the show she will be able to.

On a brighter note...I think the funniest show on TV is "Who's Line is it, Anyway". A lot of sit-coms and other comedy shows might get me to smile, but Who's Line can get me to laugh out loud every time.

There is only one TV show that warrants scheduling 'date time' with the slave so we watch it together:

DEFIANCE

This, and then some.
A page and a half before any mention of the Who? That's crazy.
(There's some really good sitcoms as well at the moment, but if we're talking dramas, then Who for the win.)

bicdTiffany -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/19/2013 1:44:50 AM)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
all time most best

Gauge -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/19/2013 1:04:57 PM)

WTF?

Dexter is not a choice? No love for the lovable Dexter Morgan?

Heathens.

Kana -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/19/2013 1:36:13 PM)

As always, Sportscenter...but of course

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/20/2013 11:58:00 PM)

I am preparing to dick rotten tomatoes and rotten coconut cream pies (ala 3 stooges skits) when I say...

Yes, I voted for Boarwalk Empire,

but with my under-score fetish for brainy big booty Jewish Women who are as quick with the verbal articulation and snidely beautiful barb, like Kat Dennings, I would have voted for 2 Broke Girls if you'd listed that choice. >;)

mindless crap....Newton Minow said it best when he called television "The Vast Wasteland"

Minow gave that speech in 1961. Much has changed since he voiced that elitest crap. Many excellent dramas and performances as well as real life events starting with the assassination of the President just six months later. .......

JFK was murdered Nov 22, 1963.

I got Season 1 of Boardwalk Empire from the library. Loved it! I'm a Steven Buscemi fan!

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Best Show on Television (9/21/2013 12:37:10 AM)

Boardwalk Empire, is without doubt, the best enacted narrative fiction on TV nd BEYOND.

Plus the women get to wear GREAT clothes.
