Public information officers for the City of Seattle have been advised to stop using the terms "citizen" and "brown bag" -- as in brown-bag lunch -- saying they could be offensive to some city residents. Elliott Bronstein of the Office for Civil Rights circulated the memo encouraging government employees to avoid using the potentially offensive terms. Instead of "brown-bag lunch," he suggests "sack lunch" or, for some inexplicable reason "lunch-and-learn," as in, "do you want to go out with us, or are you lunch-and-learning it?" Given the Weiner scandal, I find "sack lunch" offensive....*sarcastic snort* I remember attending, "brown bag seminars" while I was at the University. I also actually OWN and USE brown paper lunch bags. I think that we may be getting a little bit too PC these days. Edited to add an "o." Lol, fuckin' assholes! Yeah, and it "could" snow tommorow too. So,...the public information officers can't use those terms anymore? I'd have fun with them, "Hey Fellow Citizens, we're Brown-Bagging it for lunch tommorow at the park, you in?" I think this goes a little further than "pc" into the realm of *ANAL-RETENTIVENESS.* Was there a "committee" involved in this decision? And if so, how did it get started?
