I understand how hard it is to meet dominant-natured men in the vanilla world especially if you are not, by nature, a submissive type-it is just more hit or miss.
Since you are new to the scene, you may be misreading signs from men who are looking for the same thing as you but are more discreet and honest about it. When meeting men in a vanilla setting..be careful how you present yourself. I am not saying be different but be aware.
Have you checked Fetlife? I did and see two very interesting groups that may be good for you- a monthly subs group where you could meet people who are more experienced and a supper club where they go out to a different restaurant each month. I understand when you are new it is hard to attend "bondage night" or "playing through pain" especially because you sound like me when I started and more interested in the DYNAMIC then the BDSM stuff
