Moonlightmaddnes -> 8 inches of rain this weekend (8/5/2013 9:22:03 AM)

My phone was going off quite a bit with flood warnings. We checked the creek by our house and yep the road is flooded. The last time it flooded like this was 2008. We are suppose to get rain all week too. Good thing our house is on high ground.

Yes we are. :) We are up on high ground. Our problem is all the flooded and washed out roads. Our local news reported parts of the interstate even have water on it this morning.

Same in the area around Lake of the Ozarks. Have to find alternate routes just to get around some of the flooded areas.

Typically interstates are built to be out of any flood water....

So far we haven't been flooded out this year. Partly because we didn't get that much snow so not too much runoff for spring floods. But until hurricane season ends, I will take no bets. The last couple of years Irene and Lee, and then Sandy last year. It's been rough.

I'm in east central Kansas and we have been getting a lot of rain and flood warnings too. At least temperatures aren't in the 100's like they were last August. I just wish these cooler temperatures would stick around for the rest of the summer. I'll take low to mid 80's any day over 90's and 100's.

Oh yeah, last year was horrible. It was so stinking hot. The farmers around me were in a crisis since they could not water their cattle since the wells were drying up. Several were paying over 100,000 just to truck in water for their cattle just to keep them alive. The lake were so low there was nowhere to swim.
One guy on facebook was posting pictures at how high the lake was and I asked him if he remembered the year the parking lot was under water. He said yes and he would not be surprised if it happened again. After last years drought and 110 degree heat I say bring it on.
Sadly to add insult to injury the farmer they interviewed last summer was hit by cattle thieves who stole 70,000 dollars worth of cattle. He was saying after the losses of the drought and now the theft he was not sure he was going to make it. I am really hoping a good rain is making them a lot of hay to bail and recover some of their losses

We had more storms and heavy rain last night. Sadly flash flooding affected homes north of me and people are missing. :(
