3 years ago I let her go, it was mutual, it was time.

Recently we started talking, planning, and thinking about getting back....

Going back to an ex is like taking a shower and then putting your dirty underwear back on.

I have no clue why you broke up in the first place or why you're thinking of going back.

Yes. If you miss her and think there's a chance for happiness again.

i let her go because of life taking things out of state, it's been 3 years since we last saw each other, and now we are talking about getting back together, maybe she moves back, maybe i move to her..... just need an outside opinion.

Sometimes things don't happen for a reason. But the questions that arise are, why didn't you move heaven and earth to make it happen then?

Unless someone cheated or couldnt fill someone's demands/requests. I'd say go for it.

Otherwise, another life eh?

Sure there wasn't something else?
I broke of with someone "because she wanted us to move".
She went to NC because she needed to testify in court, didn't tell me about this till the day before.
Left on Tuesday coming back on Friday.
Was gone every time I called.
Didn't show up on Friday.
On Saturday she informed me we were moving to NC.
She then insisted I was abandoning her if I didn't go.

You like her? She likes you? You parted as friends? Go for it. Anything else, tread lightly.

If she got a job out of state that far surpassed anything she could have gotten locally, that's not a bad reason to end it.
Or having to tend an ill relative.

What concerns me is if you remained friends. If you did, and strong friends, turning to each other for support and advice, then I'd say give it a go. If you didn't, then I don't think the relationship has much chance.

The other thing is that you'll both have to work hard not to expect it to be like it was then. Because time apart has changed you. This isn't going to be resuming that relationship but starting an entirely new one. You have to accept the changes in each other and not try to recreate the past.

If you need to ask strangers on the Internet, and further, bring no more details to it than this, then I think you should just be friends, and take a lot of time to work on yourself first. You're not ready.

If things pushed you apart back then the relationship might not have been the strongest one out there. Hard to say if you should pick things back up again with the minimal information you provided. I've never been one to get back with someone, there was generally a reason why we parted, and people change as time goes on.

Being as how I know you better than I know my own brother and I know her better than my own sister and that I know every detail about your history with her, I must unequivocally say

Damn if I know.

If it was me, no.

When I leave a relationship I don't look back and I certainly don't start trying to talk to them again hoping we can get back to where we were before.

If it didn't work the first time, why would it a second time?

If I understand correctly, some event forced her to move out of state. That was three years ago. The two of you have not apparently been in contact over this time period. If all that is correct, what has changed that you two are now considering getting back together? To the extent that one or the other of you will move to the other's location?

What is different now? Why is it different now? These are good questions to ponder when thinking making your decision.

When it comes to making difficult decisions flip a coin. Which sounds about right given the information you've given us.

I heard an interesting tidbit once -- when making a difficult decision, flip a coin -- because once that coin is in the air, you'll suddenly realize how you want it to come out.

There are many reasons that a relationship may not work at one point in time, but will in another. Recognizing those is the important part. My girl was released for 20 months before I collared her again. That was seven years ago and things could not be better. If I used your plan, I would be missing out on some amazing times in my life.
