It all depend on what you consider to be a 'good' collar. I will give a reply based on the idea of around the clock & long time wear. If it's for transient play - you can go with anything that you find to be cool, or that give the best tactile feeling. If you prefer one in leather, there's so many out there I cant get into details here. But if it is for long term use, and most are, then industrially made leather might be a no-no. Especially if the person who are to wear it have shown any sign of contact allergy. If that be the case, make sure the leather is cured by traditional methods, those cost a bit more but well worth it and if its made right one such will last many years in any case in daily wear. As for metal collars you will have to be prepared to pay a bit more still. Same reason as above, unpure alloys might cause problem. You also find collars on many sites and even on E-bay that look shiny and nice, but that might very well be nickle - a known cause for contact metal allergy. Pure stainless steel is best, and there we have Axmar and SM-factory to mention two quality manufacturer. I have had both worn long term by partners, the Axmar could be worn indefinitely (she were one who indeed had a bit of contact allergy) on the second I tried the SM-factory, but even though it looked really cool, it were to heavy on the neck and we decided to revert to one made of leather - basically a thin dual sewn leather band, lockable in the neck and a d-ring in front for daily use.
