I am so worried about my dog. He doesn't act sick really, but all he wants to do lately is sleep. I mean he is 13 years old so I am sure that has something to do with it, but it still worries me. He used to sleep from about midnight to 9 or 10 am.. Today he slept until 2 pm! He got up cuddled with me for a while and then went back to sleep! I am not ready to lose him :-(.

I'm sorry you're worried about your pooch! When's the last time he was at the vet's? It could be something fixable.

He was there in July for his physical... Everything came up normal... I think he may be sad that my sis took her kids and left for vacation and he didn't get to go... He is really attached to them since we all live together...

Some exercise might do him some good. Do the kids get out in the yard and play with him?

Yes, they throw the ball for him and he chases it... They are out of town for two weeks though... They left yesterday and I am starting to think that is why he slept so late today... he knows they aren't here and he misses them and so saw no reason to get up... We have to be careful with how much we do that though because he has really bad arthritis in his back legs and hips and if he chases the ball too much in one day, the next day he can barely walk...

He should be on pills for that.

He has meds for it but they can only do so much... He gets treats that have glusamine and chondroitin in them as well... It is only if they throw it for him for a long time that it is an issue... He will chase the ball for hours if they continue to throw it for him.

I have a 14 yr old dog as well. I adopted a puppy a couple of years ago and its like my older dog has a new lease on life. Perhaps socializing your dog with a younger companion might help him also? You don't necessarily have to adopt a puppy ... A nice trip to the dog park could perk him up a bit. Just be mindful of his arthritis. Obviously rough play would be out of the question.

Or ... Maybe you could throw the ball for him a little bit until the kids get back.

This.

I will and do throw it for him, he just prefers the kids do it lol... Thanks for all the advice, the dog park is out of the question since I have no transportation right now. I am taking him down to my cousin's house on Monday (she is picking us up) and he loves her dogs so I am hoping that will help...
