Question: Does your engagement in purely vanilla professional services sometimes awaken your BDSM mind? Submissives: I understand completely "I'm a submissive, not YOUR submissive." This is not about being dominated against your will. But do you ever feel like you're being topped? Dominants: It goes without saying that you are respectful of people in service sectors, but do you ever feel that headspace come one? Background: I told my masochist friend about my barber, she told me about her dentist. She enjoys the needle to the gums and the awkward way the x-ray-film-clamp-thing fits into the mouth. She hates having her gag reflex induced and the suction straw "kissing" her tongue. After a haircut, my fancy barber massages my scalp when she washes my hair. My ears are also erogenous zones so when they are wiped dry with a towel it gives me a shiver. I feel just a lick of bottoming when my head is moved around as my hair is cut. Conversely, I once got a shoe-shine when I was waiting for a delayed plane. I top space starting to kick in. Obviously I have the good manners to tip well and not allow these sensations to affect my relationship with professionals. But its a tiny little flicker that happens inside.

The closest that I've come is with My nail tech/manicurist. I'm actually rather stiff about getting My nails done and tend not to relax My fingers. Two of the guys have found that certain phrases really work to get Me to be less tense. At the same time, they also trigger My Domme radar.

At the dentist office for me as well. No matter how much my jaw feels like its going to fall off, having to remain still with my mouth stuck open until giving me permission to close and/or spit. When the dental hygienist flosses my teeth. But only when really rough, digging the floss into my gums (my favorite part).

My physical therapist had to apply a lot of painful pressure to my shoulder during therapy. I didn't feel it was kinky in the least until I sarcastically asked him how much he liked getting paid for hurting people, and the wolfish smile and his fiendish laugh changed my mind. lol

Never had it personally, but I have a story of sort of a similar bent. Back in the days of the old alt newsgroups in the net, in the old bd/sm area, there was a character by the name of Phillip the Foole, whom I regret never meeting in real life. While I know what you mean, I've never felt it in any of those situations. Thankfully, since I don't really like the intimacy of any sort of service that requires physical contact with a near-stranger. I don't know if this counts, but I have had a sort of experience when acting. I'm a stage-school drop out and I did a lot of acting and crew work for our little local theatre. There were definitely a few actors who made me feel something when we were both in role. I once did a very sweet, innocent teenage first kiss scene with a guy. There was nothing in the scene that was D/s, either overtly or implied, but it touched that part inside me. I suppose it's not quite the same because theatre work creates an environment of short term intense connection, but in just about every role on and off set you I felt this deep sense of interdependence and having my own place. Performers are largely at the mercy of each other. As the director you get a great rush from using these people as complex puppets to create your own vision. If that's not domination, I don't know what is. And it helps that acting gives you some similar emotions to a good BDSM scene - the fear, the euphoria, the connection, the vulnerability. Man, I miss it.

Back in Austin after having my hysterectomy, I was feeling weird and passed out. Next thing I know, a pair of paramedics were working on me, getting an IV started. One of them I knew personally and he mentioned that I looked like shit. Told him that I felt like it too. Ended up having a drop in my potassium, but they kept me in due to an infection flaring up and a seizure. I was also vomiting anything that I tried to eat or drink, so I was NPO and had to rely on the IV... This is the only way I get needle play...if I need bloodwork done or an IV. My dentist does do the novocaine and laughing gas when I go see him about any extractions.

I have the opposite issue. I wouldn't mind taking the needle and jabbing my own gum at the dentist but I hate giving them the control. And I had real issues with my chiropractor when he had to hold my head. It took me a long time to be able to relax so that he could manipulate my joints. Silly really. I just couldn't let him push my head to the side. It was an instant reflex for me to resist against him. We became quite good friends but he gets a bit angry with me with that one.

I'm going to give this a go but I feel my different viewpoint means I'm answering a different question. With the understanding that "dominance" to me is not sexual... generally I always have that headspace on. Yes, a woman with a [to me] submissive personality can bring that more to the fore. I don't feel particularly constrained by the rules of BDSM so without bothering to drag out a 274 page legal contract and ensure consent I'll go ahead and boss people around. I try to always be respectful of everyone I meet.

I find it very difficult to give any doctor or nurse control. When a nurse or technician takes my blood I tense up so hard that my arm is black and blue for weeks. Doctors get annoyed when I don't just listen to them but insist on reading the MSDS sheets for every medication and double check their diagnoses with technical text books.
