Why dont you send the fracking water back down the pipeline that carries the oil? You have the infrastructure.

You could do that as long as the pipe is rated for whatever you're pumping through it. Fresh water probably wouldn't be a problem but salt water or chemically treated water might be. Then you have to consider any issues with contaminating the oil you put back through it and coordinating the oil/water traffic. You might save some money but you also wouldn't make any progress on the issue of fresh water supplies.

well, they are talking about desalinated water for defracking, and I cannot believe if they are using it to get the oil out, that coming back it is gonna be contaminated..........

I'm assuming you're talking about the oil being contaminated because obviously the water would be. But you're right. If you're starting with desalinated water (which I'm basically calling fresh water) it shouldn't be a problem.

Shame on our government for pressing ahead with this shit.

There are basically no vehicles that use natural gas unless you count the buses in the major cities...nothing for the average Joe and his car.

You can use CNG (compressed natural gas) for vehicles, its been around for decades.. my ex was into that shite a long time ago.. but no one wants to covert their vehicles to that and there were problems with vehicles not running very well.. not sure if they have made any progress on that, I see it advertised recently.. of course you need filling stations all over which is a big drawback and mechanics that know how to repair them.. given what I know about it, I would rather buy a scooter or motorcycle instead.. I was looking at the stats and they get 80mpg.. (yes, they are more dangerous of course)..

I have been after Lizard to take a motorcycle class and get a motorcycle license so hr dad can buy a motor scooter. Gods knows she can get one cheap in Austin. That is how I got around Austin before I met Bo and figured out the bus system.

Actually, I work in/around fracking.
There has been a lot of pushback from EPA concerning re-used frack water.
Many pressure-pumping companies are trying to find an EPA-acceptable and economically viable way to do it.
Here in Ohio, where I work, water availability has been a big issue for us.

I have to say after watching "Gasland" I am convinced fracking is unsafe.

Then perhaps you should watch/read something factual

Oh Dear God would I love to see the environmental impact statement on that bit of folly.
At the least it would endanger a weed or an ant or something.

For someone who claimed to be a cop, you wouldnt know a fact if it bit you on the arse.

I guess you are going to tell me the methane catching light in "Gasland" didnt happen.

truckinslave -> RE: Texas wells dry from drought & fracking (8/16/2013 8:14:34 AM)

I have no idea whether or not that was faked.
Neither do you. You accept it as face because you saw it in a "documentary". I have seen too much fraud in "documentaries".
What I am familiar with are the tremendous safeguards taken to prevent that sort of thing, and the sheer physical near-impossibility of it happening in the first place.
