Of course not. It just conveniently has the same effect.

Equating the ability to vote and the ability to get an ID is no test. It was a statement.

You're better than that, DC.

An argument could be made that this is a "poll tax" though.

Not when they are free.

They are free only when they are free, and taxpayers paying for them pay a poll tax on behalf of those who get them 'free', and that will be the case presented to SCOTUS at some point. Because there still has to be an escape clause, or it violates Haskins or Harkins or whatever(too lazy to look it up, but it is quoted in that case that Phydeaux is always misquoting, that strict voter id mandatory is a poll tax.

To ad to what Ron said... they are not free. Someone is paying for the ID's... the taxpayer directly or indirectly.

Travel to get an ID isnt free... someone is paying.

Supporting documents arent free... someone is paying.

Its perfectly fine to require someone to provide for a privilege.. like driving.

Had they required voter ID cards to everyone... not DL's, not State ID's, ect ect... then offered them "free" so that everyone has the same opportunity and the same cost to obtain one, I could see your argument..

But they are still not solving, or ever gonna solve a fucking thing in this world. Guy gets an ID. Good to go. Goes out on the list for voting in time

In the meantime, he has changed address.
He has killed his wife and been convicted of murder.

He is going to jail, but goes and votes at his old address. (well, he would be busted today with the way it is done now.)

But what has it solved?

What would it solve that is not solved now?

Additionally, a person changes address but hasn't gotten a new voter id, and they show up to the new polling place to vote...
What happens with voter id that doesnt happen today?

If you can make a voter id, I can fake a voter id, btw.

I agree. I dont think this is the solution everyone is screaming for. SS numbers are sold.... DL's are available in some states to illegal immigrants. What are we really fixing with this?

Nothing that the government is involved in is free.
Someone pays.

Did you just really say that everyone has the same opportunity and the same cost to obtain one as a prereq for them not being a poll tax?!? WTF?

Boy, the taxpayers are having to pay just to hold a vote. That smells more like a poll tax than requiring an ID...

When we vote, the cost doesnt change from person to person. There are expected costs with any election, regardless if its local, State, National. Poll taxes were a way to keep certain people from voting. Mississippi had one, 2 bucks at the time, which would equate to just over 13 dollars in todays value. The poor could not vote.

For me to obtain a birth certificate from NY today, its 30 bucks. if I already have an ID, and I lose my BC, I wont need it as long as I get it renewed on time. Those who dont have to pay 30 bucks if they were born in NY to vote.

And you dont see how that could correlate to a poll tax?

As usual, the dimmoKKKRAP talking points are exactly OPPOSITE of the TRUTH!
EVERY STUDY has shown that there is INCREASED BLACK VOTER PARTICIPATION in ALL RECENT ELECTIONS!
ALL AMERICANS EXPECT ONE VOTE PER PERSON!
dimmoKKKRATS have been sent to prison in every case where it could be proved that they voted multiple times for Obama!
NOT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN HAS BEEN CONVICTED OF LIMITING THE VOTE OR VOTE CHEATING!
There are 40 things you cannot do IN AMERICA WITHOUT A PHOTO ID!
EVERY Obama Voter on Food Stamps HAS TO HAVE A PHOTO ID!
THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO REQUIRE A PHOTO ID TO VOTE!
Now, let the maniacal Obama Koole-Aid poisoned brains get crazy...three...two...one....

First, I am assuming English is your first language... would be helpful if you actually typed in it. Your post was a bit hard to follow.

You might be interested to learn that a Photo ID is not required for food stamps or welfare. I suggest you do some research before making such unlearned statements again. Most people will jump all over a post made with ignorance of the topic.

Guess you missed the multiple posts about the GOP candidate who was found guilty....

Jack Villamaino .. 300 counts voter fraud

Google the name... learn something.

It has long been known, amongst those who pay attention, that negative campaign ads drive down turnout. Now go look at the use of negative ads in major races. Don't be too shocked when you see the negative ads are mostly from the right. They do know what they are doing. That's why these voter suppression laws are being passed now, the last 2 Presidential elections they trotted out their tired crap and the American public ignored it, turnout was high and they got trounced. So now they have to find a new way to keep people from voting.
