I voted not sure but that isn't really accurate. I'm quite sure that the home's value will increase, decrease, or stay the same depending upon the eye of the beholder. Obviously, in the eyes of uncaring, bigoted, dicks, it decreases the home's value.

I can't speak for your municipality, hunk, but where I live, any feature installed for the benefit of a handicapped person is not counted as an asset/deficit when assessing the taxable value of a house. It's generally considered a temporary addition for medical necessity, and thus neither adds nor subtracts. They put more value in trees and hardwired additions.

While I am not opposed to beautifying a property, they shouldn't have to just to appease some uncaring, bigoted, dicks.

Wow. Just wow. I was completely surprised by the photo and cannot believe neighbors would have issue over it. I certainly hope they don't run into an instance where they one day need to install a ramp of their own. I've seen make-shift ramps that, although not exactly pleasing to the eyes, only bothered me because they appeared to be liability hazards. I don't believe that will have a direct impact on the surrounding home values. It could possibly affect prospective buyers of neighboring houses, causing sales prices to be lowered and therefore affecting values. I just can't see that many people having a problem with the ramp. I personally wouldn't.

My thinking is the complainer could slip in the bathtub today and need a ramp himself. If I was in the market for a house- I would be pondering if there is a group home there. FR I don't know how it works in the USA but here the empired person has the right to use her property with no limitation so even if this would decrease the other properties value her right is above this, said that if the picture is the actual house on exam the ramp looks solid so don't put any guest will step on it in hazard, is well mantained so doesn't give an image of degrade, doesn't change the architecture of an historical building, doesn't contrast with the genral esthetic of the building like covering half of a window so I really don't see how can decrease value not only of the surronding property but of that house itself.

Neighbors shooting each other over disputes about the fence or some other such nonsense? Yeah, I'm sure an example here and there can be found but I've not seen such shootings on the news every day. In my entire lifetime I have never even witnessed a confrontation with guns or even heard a gun shot in anger. I don't think I know of anyone who has. The U.S. may have a higher gun crime rate (due mostly to stupid drug laws) than some other nations but that still does not justify the ignorant, bigoted, stereotypical bullshit view that some people have about us. FR~ Ok, so I have a disabled wife and I understand the problems of the disabled. That said, that is one huge ramp for a wheelchair or scooter. Why couldn't they have constructed a much smaller, discreet, ramp direct from the driveway to the front door instead of that humungous affair that they have built?? Unless you lived waaay out in the countryside in a detached home, nobody would get planning permission here for such an eyesore. And yes, it would certainly devalue the surrounding property values. But I'm only talking about the UK here. I know this rubs against the general concensus but that's my take on it. A normal ramp, yes. But that eyesore?? No way!

Yes, it impairs the value, I might think to pay less for such a fine house with a lovingly built nurturing ramp on it because of the diminished minds that live next door to it. You can't pay enough for good neighbors.

I don't know in the uk but in italy a ramp has a limitation to 8% inclination so it means that for 40cm to climb it must be 5m long at least and if my eye is correct this shoud be the right proportions, than you need a parapet, otherwise you don't get the abitability certificate. The only thing is it looks too cold with the steel parapet if it was something more matching with the wooden walls and covering the concrete sides with I don't know some kind of local stone it would have looked nicer and not like the one from a public building. I would plant shrubs, but then I would probably have already done that in the first place even before the dicks started complaining.. cuz I like shrubs.. and I would like to look at them myself anyway.. maybe you need to go have yourself some more cake.. just a thought..
