Hunky. I'd remove the "end fluoridation of water" from your platform. It makes your guy look like a tinfoiler and the incumbent will jump all over that to distract from his own liabilities.

No way in hell. We are taking on this issue either way after the election. Thanks for your suggestion tho.

Rumor has it- even the police chief wont drink the water.

pahunkboy -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/15/2013 8:09:15 AM)

So far- we are getting the vote roster- from that- we will try to get these people to vote absentee.

50 votes can swing the election. A no name got 40% of the vote in the primary. People do not want the frack dump.

MasterCaneman -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/15/2013 8:12:46 AM)

If you have to, show the cost/benefit analysis of ending municipal fluoridation, and link it to the negative health impacts (with cited VALID references). Always aim for the wallet, that's the sure way to get votes. And definitely avoid tinfoil-hatism by all means-it'll shut you out faster than anything.

Oh, and one last thing. If any of the advice you take from here works, under no circumstances do you ever reveal that you garnered it from a BDSM message board. Ever. [;)]

I didn't say not to do it later. I said not to make it a campaign point.

Incumbents are hard to beat. The way to beat them is to be a relative unknown. It worked for Obama didn't it? (I know he wasn't running against an incumbent but he was running against Hillary who was as close as you can get).
Know how Clinton won his first term?
"The economy is bad and my last name isn't Bush" was pretty much his whole platform.
The more the incumbent knows about you, the more he can look for ammunition.

You need to avoid some of the controversial stuff that might make you look tinfoilish or he will jump all over it and try to make your guy look silly.

Remember the old proverb. "Tis far better to be silent and thought an be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

It's especially important in politics. Look what happened to the TEA party.

I could not agree with you more.

I think it costs us 50k a year on the fluoride. If might be cheaper to hand out fluoride pills.

mnottertail -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/15/2013 10:10:29 AM)

isnt there enough flouride in toothpaste? so, how many votes total do you need to win according to historical voter turnout?

Hunk in all seriousness, you need to learn dirty tricks in politics. Pictures of your opponents in compromising situations, or dressed in character attending a rocky horror showing.

Key Issues

Yeah well almost NEVER does a city government have any say in any fracking operations, whether extracting or dumping. City governments cannot lower state taxes or do much of anything to entice new business ergo new jobs.

They can abate city taxes, and possible some local zoning, ONLY LOCAL. If they have alot of money they can loan some to a new business. If they have a strong economy they can even make a bond offering to do infrastructure inprovements to entice a new business, but if it doesn' pay off their name is mud.

Really if you are anti-fed, the state is the way to go. The things that really matter will be more easily handled by the state, especially if it means fighting the feds. Having your people in the local governments does indeed help, but watch that platform. Don't make promises the dude cannot keep because early in his carreer it can damn him worse than a sex scandal, and I mean sex with a little kid scandal. If "they" don't like him the fact that he turned the TV channel in 1972 can and will be used against him.

People do not have the intelligence to iunderstand that there are things a mayor cannot do, and that applies to councilmen as well. They all make lies they know they cannot keep. (I refuse to call them promises)

Pennsylvania is technically a commonwealth, which is only a slightly different legal status of a "state". It really doesn't matter to a company that does fracking. They deal through the feds and somewhat the state, but the state can tie them up in court. What's more I doubt the issue is as stated becasue the federal EPA is not going to let them dump fracking waste in a viable river or stream anyway. Tort cases will at the VERY LEAST be handled on a county level, if not higher.

In other words this may be a manufactured issue, and I am sure a mayoral election is not going to fix it. To have the guy on your side later when the shit hits the fan is what matters. If soemone on the side of the People can climb the political ladder that is of course good, but a smalltown mayor promising to clean up the environment is not all that smart.

T^T

pahunkboy -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/16/2013 5:55:46 AM)

The issues are more then a frack dump. Things are pre-decided - public comment and opinion is ignored on pretty much every issue. The mayor has done things that - he should go to jail for. Payalo-- fraud- broke sunshine laws.

The man we are running is a current city council member he is a known quantity. He has been around a long time. He does not have an ego problem.

pahunkboy -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/16/2013 6:59:43 AM)

BTW- we have a serious problem.

The mayor is out to oust our police chief. The current chief does not harrass me. I never worry about it.

MasterCaneman -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/16/2013 7:50:31 AM)

Then go to the county sheriff or state police with it. Sitting mayors can get away with stunts like that. Is you chief an elected or appointed position? If elected, it's another campaign to fight-if the latter there isn't much you can do. It also depends on if there's a contract involved regarding his position.

pahunkboy -> RE: I need ideas to win the mayoral election- (8/16/2013 8:21:58 AM)

The police chief is appointed. He is well liked in the area. For the most part he stays out of the political fray.
