Well, since I broke the ice and posted some of my artwork I decided I should post some of my poetry as well. Forgive me if I become prolific. Normally I would post some artwork to go with each poem but I'll refrain as this forum isn't really setup for that.
Maybe at some point I'll put in a plug for some of my books that have artwork specifically created for each poem, but again that's not my intent here today.

An Imperfect Smile
distance lies heavy between us
like a thick fog blanketing the valley
this ethereal touch so faint
I can hardly feel you
sitting there in thought
distracted idly
these words mixed with thoughts
of everything you have placed
upon this barren table
examining the pieces
so perfectly placed
admired like a perfectly balanced photograph
saying nothing without words
mixed togther in some mindless jumble
laying scattered on the floor
amongst your pile of clothes
abandoned like some wayward child
dirty and grim
with large dark eyes
that stare at you with empty sockets
waking you in the deepest sleep
leaving a bitter taste
staining your memory
with the reflection
that taste of bile
rising in your throat
choking you sensless
until at last no longer able to stand
your fist flying through the air
with every frustration you've ever borne
shattering the mirror
breaking the reflections
so carefully placed there
naked without thought
you smile and the shadows recede
once again fading with the light
no longer your illusion
staring back at you
with vacant smiles
you shake your head
and once again
look into your own eyes
and notice the imperfection there
a crooked smile adorning your lips
awaiting my kiss...
