It never was. People in the military and US IC know this. Oddly, the media does not report it. So, people sitting at home believing what their president told them in 2006, 2007, 2008 and so forth are unaware.

These are some of the largest contracts awarded to date. The billion dollar embassy still thrives - looking more like a nuclear bunker than a place indented to promote democracy.

http://iraq.usembassy.gov/ Its costs to keep up are astronomical. It is the worlds largest and most expensive. Inside for the select few like a palace.

The first link you put out only shows one contract where work is going to be performed (by a civilian company for the USAF) in Iraq. One link does state that performance location will be determined for each job, so that could include Iraq.

Presence and maintenance of an embassy (regardless of it's fortification and opulence) isn't proof of a continuing war, unless you are going to claim that we are at war with every country we have an embassy.

Are we still engaged in active hostilities in Iraq?

I imagine there's a shit-ton of private contractors doing all kinds of who knows what over there. How else could the government keep up any illusion of plausible deniability?

But I don't see anything at all conclusive from this that there is still a war going on. These contracts are rather small and one was completely declassified. Yes, the compound is an attempt to build a small area for US employees etc. to operate almsot as if they were home with even more luxuries available.

I am thinking if this was continuing war supply going on in Iraq, then most contracts would reflect much more spending and none would be unclassified. Course...we wouldn't be seeing any because I think our real presence in Iraq...is black, i.e., CIA.

I'm not saying I really know what's going on because I don't pay attention to Iraq anymore but don't you think it's entirely possible that even the CIA contracts some of it's work and keeps it black?

By all means, post all those recently dated photos of M-1 Abrams storming across Iraq.....

....Because we did that when there were hostilities in Iraq.

were you being sarcastic?.. did you look at the pics? opulence? ugh.. it has some basic amenities but nothing I saw screamed "opulence" to me.. rather, its quite depressing, imo.. and what a pitiful "private garden",.. maybe the photogs weren't allowed to the true "opulent" section? It is a HUGE complex tho, which imo is why its so expensive..

not picking on ya, DS, just what you said struck me as funny..

Never said anything was opulent. I was making a blanket statement about all the US embassies anywhere and attempting to be as inclusive as I could.

That's all.

There is indeed a war going on in Iraq: a religious/political sectarian war between Sunni and Shia. Where do you see US troop or special forces involvement? No evidence.
