yup, i concur, emailing is so higher profile than making a whole new thread.

Not a response to you in particular, but since I have never emailed anyone directly, but have only responded to emails to me ...  it is damn annoying to find that email replies are blocked.  Even worse, when told they aren't blocked, I find the person doesn't even have the courtesy to read the reply, let alone respond.

Basically, there are rude arseholes here.. just like reallife.

bandit: Just pretend I'm Oprah Winfrey and you're the audience (I don't know if you read about the day she showed up at her show and unexpectedly bought new cars for all of  her audience members? Maybe we should re-locate to Chicago)...?

And to add- start taking your time in reading and pause before you post- for a few hours or so if you have to.  You've gotten yourself into these waters a half dozen times in the past week or so.  Stop your habits and form new ones.

I'd e-mail her, but don't want to make a big deal out of it

So you make a whole damn thread about it.... even to the point of stating the girls name.
Yet you couldn't swallow your pride enough to email her an apology... classic.

Now that the thread has been entirely read by Me, My only advice would be that in the future... realize what a self-righteous ass you've been in the past... and correct said behavior.

well wishes,
T.R.

Anyone know the original source of the brilliant "'Shut up,' he explained"?  It's an American writer, but not a particularly famous one.

e mail her and make both of you feel better but then that is only my solution.

Been there...done that.....did the Email...everything was cool.
We all screw up sometimes.
It takes a bigger person to stand up and say I did it.Than to just let it go.

SusanofO -> RE: "Shut up!" she explained - misreading a post (6/30/2006 2:01:18 PM)

It's Ring Lardner. He was an author and journalist inthe early 20th century (he died in 1933, I think). He was famous back then for being a humorist, but he also wrote stage plays and for various newspapers.

One of my favorite stories by him is fictional story about a guy who becomes famous for flying across some huge body of water in an airplane; the first person who'd ever done it over this particular body of water. The public wants and is expecting him to be this huge hero-type character because he's done this heroic thing by being the first person to ever do this in an airplane.

Except - the media and the government find it hard to lionize him because he drinks too much, hates his family, has no manners, no gainful employment and never shaves or takes a bath. He's a politically incorrect embarrassment. So the government and some publicists conspire to toss him out a window, instead (it's hysterically funny).

Yup, and not too many people have heard of him these days.  Anyway, it's from "The Young Immigrunts."  (Sports fans may know have heard of other stories he wrote, like "Alibi Ike" and "You Know Me, Al.")
