In the comment section of this article about health care,

http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/20/they-cant-handle-the-health-care-truth/?_r=0

a man from Sydney, Australia said the following:

"Just another reminder that in the civilised world, this is a complete non-issue. Here in Australia we pay a tax of about 1.5% and enjoy unlimited, universal, free healthcare - nobody even thinks about it."

For those of you who live in countries with single-payer health care, what percentage is your health care tax?

I don't know what it is in "percentages" as the article talks about. I know we pay roughly half what we paid in the US.

we spend 7.1% of pil but in italy there is a lot of corruption, so I don't know what share is really necessary for medications and what for the head physician's porsche cayenne

Cuz I looked it up for another thread recently, in BC (Canada) a single person would pay $65/m (if you make under a certain income, you don't even pay that, you pay zip).. of course a portion of the provincial taxes pay the rest, That varies from province to province as each provincial govt decides how they administer the Act, within the framework allowed..

A left-wing blogger promoting a health care system he will probably never have to use. Oh yeah, that will change everyones mind about how great it is to have the government dispense your health care. Krugman and others have always promoted Obummercare as a necessary step to single-payer, but as much as left wing bloggers schill for Obamacare and single-payer, I don't think I've ever read anything about how excited any of them are going to be to drop their current health insurance and go on the exchanges.

Now that I think about it, I can't think of a single public figure who supported the Unaffordable Care Act who seems eager to drop their current coverage for it.

By the way, Krugman is the same left-wing wacko that was recently ridiculed and accused of plaguerism on his blog by a professor (and fellow left-wing wacko) at UCLA.

Commonwealth of Massachusetts

97% of the state's citizens are on some form of health care coverage since 2006. This was put into place with Democrats and former Governor Mitt Romney. About 62-64% of that 97% I know are from those obtaining health coverage from their employers. An I think the recent number for Medicare in Mass was 14-17%. The remainder comes from a number of different sources including Mass Health. It costs the commonwealth 1.4% of its total budget to run its health system (it costs us more to plow our roads of snow each year).

I've chatted with more than a few ER nurses and doctors that have said since its creation, less people use the ER for 'everyday kind of problems'. That patients can access physical, mental and emotional health care professions to handle a wide range of problems and keep their dignity. I pay less for my health care than most Americans across my nation! An I get more benefits!

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts does not tax its health care as a separate, individual tax but bulks it with the state tax rate.

Apples and oranges. One is s system to deliver as much health care to as many people as possible at a cost-effective price that includes a reasonable profit.

The other system delivers less health care to enough people to make a whopping profit. Can't have both.

Insurers and big med and pharma would throw enough free speech [sic] at congress to continue Cadillac coverage for the rich and subsidized very, very profitable coverage for the middle class and poor that will bankrupt the taxpayer.

Look kinkroids, health care is easy, it is the profits that matter. Policy or culture has society that serves economy (US) die 3-4 years younger while paying twice for what health care you got before that or an economy that serves society (the rest of the west is trying very hard) where you pay 1/2 as much and live 3-4 years longer.

ok but this is like a tax, they are money the employee produce and he has no full liberty to use, I don't mean it's wrong if being more person the insurance cost will be less in average than how an individual would pay, I just say it's actually part of the employee gross income.

Just curious - have you ever lived in a country that used single-payer? Because every person I've talked to that has (at least the ones from a developed country like the US), has said they preferred it.

Sure. Who on earth would be eager to have their employer no longer pay 75-100% of the cost of their fancy high-end insurance? It's crazy that "wow, people with cushy plans they don't have to pay for don't want to give them up!" is really used as an argument.
