I have relearned some things about having puppies in the house.

In my case it is a pit bull/lab pup.

1) Indestructible puppy toys aren't. I am inquiring about filing lawsuits against the makers of indestructible dog toys. So far I have spent 60 bucks on toys that are supposedly impossible to destroy. Blu manages to accomplish the absolute destruction of these toys in less than a week.

2) Electrical cords are chewtoyable. I have combated this habit by running all electrical cords through industrial grade cord protectors.

3) Pups can and will steal the covers. Blu insists on getting under the covers at night, then he manages to roll around and have all of them around him in a nest like structure, he is a dog, not a bird.

4) Pit bull pups can swim in anything, including a large water bowl.

5) Puppies can not keep their food in their bowls, no matter how big the bowl is.

6) There does not have to be anything smelling of food in a trash can for a puppy to dump it and spread the contents all over the room.

When my dog was a little puppy, he had to grab a mouthful of food and place it on the floor to eat it.
Then he discovered it was easier to just paw out the food.
He's now three and still does either one but bats at and plays with the food before he will eat it.

My Dal/Lab used to sort her food. She'd take a mouthful, spit it out on the floor and then pick it out kibble by kibble. I always wondered if she ate the best first or saved the best for last.

Mac likes to be under the covers. Raider likes to lick feet (He's our foot fetishist).

Mac's favorite treats are canteloupe and peaches. Raider was starved as a puppy, so he'll eat almost anything...except canteloupe and peaches.

Raider likes to lay on the back of the couch, like he's a 10lb lap dog.

Mac is a Ridgeback mix and Raider is an Aussie Dog mix. The key to both of them was letting them run. Mac would go to the dog park and run for 30 minutes straight and we would take him every other night. When we got Raider we had a big yard and the two of them would do laps.

Labs eat everything and are always hungry.
And they have an uncanny ability when invited up on the furniture to stretch out and out until they've taken over the whole bed or sofa and the people are on the floor.

Before I opened the thread, I didn't realize the blank was for breeds.

I thought it was for cussing...

I thought the same, even after opening it.

So I'll add: my pup is a boxer. Not sure if that's where the name originated or not, but he does "box" and tends to use his paws more than the average dog it seems. All his muscle is in his front and completely obliviously to his strength. He likes stepping on people and their feet.

When our lab/shepherd mutt was a pup, he dug holes in the walls of my house. Grew up into a fine dog.

As for puppy toys, give them a steady supply of empty 2 liter pop bottles. Be sure to swap them out frequently, because when the plastic stops making the good noise, they'll eat the neck. The great thing about this is, if you recycle by weight, they are worth exactly as much when the dog is done with them, as when you started.

Heretic, blu has eaten a toilet plunger, handle and bulb, a 3 foot length of 1.5 inch diameter natural fiber rope, solid rubber chew toys, I even braided some heavy saddle leather to make a tug rope to play with him with. It lasted a day.

I even got some big bones from a butcher friend of mine and after roasting them, gave them to all the dogs. Blu reduced his to splinters then each of the other bones once the owner tired of it.

I am toying with the idea of wrapping a 1 foot length of 1/4 inch steel in leather and letting him have that. One of my hobbies is leather work, so I figure I will be able to keep the wrappings going, unless he eats the steel bar.
