I have a small, green wastepaper basket to the left of my dresser. Each evening, I toss my change into it. It remains there till I need quarters for laundry or am feeling broke.

I used to have massive roll-a-thons and take everything to the credit union. Now I go to a local bank. I decided my time was worth their 6 percent cut.

I save pennies, maybe some nickels. But anything else I usually save for at work to use the vending machine when I'm in need of desperate caffeine or if Master needs some change for parking. We live in the city and most of the time you have to pay for parking anywhere you go.

Good idea. Our vending machine--moodiest one on Earth--theoretically takes bills but often refuses.

My bank has a machine that counts out the money. They just dump your container in the metal counter and you can watch the digits as it adds up the coins that go through. It doesn't cost me anything at all. They will take the rolled ones as well but would rather you come in with loose change. It's less work for them.

When I was mugged, it was at 5am and I was able to use a friend's phone to cancel my card since they have 24/7 phone services. I admit I don't normally carry cash on me or very little. Master used to get annoyed when he first met me because I never had cash. I use my card for almost everything. The only reason I carry a little bit of cash on me now is because I have a long commute everyday to work and having some change is useful for machines.

It would be free if I had an account at the bank where I take my change. Haven't crunched the numbers to see if that's cost-effective.

No. The only place I don't use plastic is the farm stand. I keep enough paper and change on hand to use there. On the rare occasions I accumulate too much change, I dump it into the change jar at my church.

Oh, my mechanic only accepts cash too, but I go to the ATM for that and he rounds so there's no coins involved.

I usually use my debit card for things, but occasionally cash if I'm just running in for a pack of gum or something. I have a tin jar that I dump loose change in. No idea how much is in there. I don't want to give Coinstar my money and haven't bothered asking my bank how they'll take it (rolled or loose). One of these days I'll cash it in.

Master always has big containers of change. He saves it for vacations or if he needs it for an emergency situation. He just throws in all his change at the end of the day when he gets home. He's not one to use vending machines and such whereas I use them at work as an excuse to take a break and walk away from all programming that is starting to make my eyes glaze over lol.

Thanks! It also keeps a young child busy for about 20 minutes of counting and some good addition practice. ;)

I don't know about anyone else but for me at least, it is more about my purse. Each morning I have to travel to some local restaurant to grab something for my mom's lunch. Inevidibly it will give me back 35-95 cents in change, plus some bills. I toss that money in my purse. The coins fall to the botton. A few hours later I am able to escape and head to work. I grab a McD's ice tea at a cost of 1.08. I hand over 2 bucks because the change is impossible to grab among all my computer tools. So.. 98 cents comes back in change. In the evening as I make my way home grabbing another iced tea. By the end of the week my purse is easily 5 lbs heavier. On Friday I dump the contents and toss the coins in the jar.
My yearly tally can range from 300, to 600. I rarely touch the jar for coinage until I am ready to cash in.

You guys do know about inflation, right? Especially that guy somebody mentioned who has 3-4 giant bottles in his garage. If you have $1,000 in change and the inflation is at 3%, you're losing $30 in buying power every single year. That's a pretty lousy way to handle money...

My change disappears into tips at Starbucks or other coffee establishments. What's left over goes to parking meters.

We have a huge art deco glass salad bowl we use for small change. Himself saves some quarters for a collection, the others go into a piggy bank for mad money.

I have a Mason jar on the nightstand. It usually takes about six months to fill, then it's off to the Credit Union. Their machine charges only 3% and I usually score around $80.00 which I promptly put into the savings account.
